32、ecoastalandoffshoreenvironmentprobablyrepresentstheharshestconditionsforgasturbines.Humidity,rainfallandseasonaldustarethemostobviousvisibleconditionsthatoperatorsfaceonsite.Hiddeninthecombustionair,alkalisuchaspotassium,sodiumormagnesium,aswellassulfurlsoot,volatilehydrocarbons,oilyvapours,andparti

33、clesallgenerategasturbineissuesincludingcompressorfouling,air-coolingpassagefouling,vaneandbladeerosion,andcompressorcorrosion.Combinedwithsulfurinfuels,thesealkaliincombustionaircreatehotcorrosion.Finally,heavyrainfallcaninducefilterwashingsthatreleasefilteredparticlesintothecompressor.Allthesephen

34、omenaimpactthegasturbineavailabilityonsite.Theroleofahighlyefficientairfiltrationsystemistomaintaintheenginecleanlinessbypreventingtheintroductionofcontaminantsintothegasturbineairintake.Achievingahighlevelofenginecleanlinesshelpsmaintainengineintegrityandefficiencyandreducestheneedforwaterwasheswhi

35、chgenerateavoidabledowntime.Currently,highefficiencyfilterelementsarecharacterizedbyalimitednumberofparameters,namelyfilterefficiencyandmostpenetratingparticlesize(MPPS).Theseparameters,relatedtoasinglefilterelement,aremeasuredinlaboratoryconditionsclosetofavourableinlandconditionswithsyntheticdust.

36、Consequently,theseconditionsarefarfromtherealityobservedonsite,offshoreornearcoast,wherefilterelementsareusuallypartofasystem.Thetestresultsdonotthereforeprovideabasisforpredictingeitheroperationalfilterperformanceorservicelife.Theobjectiveofthisdocumentistoconsiderhowtheeffectofwaterspray,humiditya

37、ndsaltaffectstheperformanceofanairfilter.Thetestedairflowpassingthroughthefilterelementisclosetotheairflowrateoperatedonsiteforthethreedifferentconcepts:low,mediumorhighvelocityfilterelements.Sootlvolatilehydrocarbons,oilyvapoursandparticlesalsohaveimpactonfiltercharacterizationandperformance.Thesep
