Now, Gone with the Wind has been translated more than ten scripts, and sold in forty countries. This novel tells us a story happened
3、 in the south of America during the Civil War. The heroine, Scarlett OHara who catches many peoples eyes, gathers many characters and is also a contradictory person.Scarlett is a girl comes from south of America. She inherits her fathers rebellious character and learns from her mother many things, s
4、uch as to be a great girl, to be a girl who must have abundant knowledge and good moral character when she is very young. Scarlett also wants to be a girl like her mother, and she knows that her mother is the embodiment of justice, truth, loving tenderness and profound wisdoma great girl. But in her
5、 body the rebellious blood is flowing. Just because of it, she can love or hate someone bravely, and make great efforts to realize her aims. She always goes forwards with strong wills. “Tomorrow is another day.”is her motto. So Scarletts character is contradictory and she was the whole body with kin
6、d-heartedness, rebellion, persistence, selfishness, and vanity.2. The merits of her character2.1 The bravery to express her feelingsScarlett is born in a plantation. She is very young and beautiful. When she is 16yearold, she loves her neighbor Ashley. But when she hears that Ashley will marry Melan
7、ie, Melanie is very kind-hearted and she is Scarletts friend. At one party, Scarlett expresses her love to Ashley and incites him to marry her, because she believes that Ashley really loves her, and that she loves Ashley very much. At the party, she tells Ashley:“I couldnt ever hate you. I tell you

Never before had she seen so much misery in anyones face. “Ashley, do you careyou do, dont you?”“Yes,”he said dully. “I care.”If he had said he loathed her, she could not have been more frightened. It barely cleared the tall back of the sofa and splintered with a little crash against the marble mantelpiece

When she talks with someone she must be polite. On the contrary, Scarlett is not like the other girls, so she c

If there is only one hope, she will try her best to get her happiness, she doesnt let the hope sneak off, and she treads love with plunder hurt and blindness. She is different from the others. She is brave enough to express her emotions. On the other
13、hand, Scarlett wants to persuade Ashley to elope with her because she really loves him, but Ashley refuses her, and she is very angry, and struggles with him. She turns love into hatred. Then she slaps him across the face with all the strength she has. At last, when Ashley goes away she picks up the
14、 bowl and hurls it viciously across the room toward the fireplace. Normally, Scarlett loves Ashley very much, she shouldnt be so rude to Ashley, and she says many bad words to him. Even more she slaps Ashley, the red mark of her hand shows plainly on Ashleys white tired face, Ashley says nothing, bu
15、t lifts her limp hand to his lips and kisses them, and he goes away before she can speak again. Scarlett loves Ashley, but meanwhile, she hurts him. In order to show her anger, she marries Melanies brother Charles. She thinks if she does this, she can make Ashley angry. Then Ashley will come back to
16、 her. But the result turns out contrary to her expectation. Ashley does not do what she wishes.Ashley makes her disappointed, but about her third husband Rhett, she feels contradictory. She hates him at first, because Rhett happens to hear the conversation in which she expresses her love for Ashley.
17、 She thinks Rhetts words are directed at her. So sometimes she has no good impression on Rhett. When they talk about something, they always mock each other. She considers Rhett opposes her, but Rhett loves her very much.For instance, after her first husband Charles died, she meets Rhett. She doesnt

20、oves her. Rhett treats her very well, although he always opposes her. As a woman, she should have feeling about the love, but she does not admit it. But Scarlett still hates him. However, when she loves Rhett, he departs her. So, when she feels uncomfortable from Rhett, she doesnt keep it back, but
21、she expresses it.2.2 The kind-hearted characterAt that time in the south of America, there has many plantations. The owners exploit slavers, while the slavers want to abolish the slavery, but the southern people dont want to do that. The northern party has more manpower, financial resources and indu
22、stry. It also has navies, who resist the southern party to get the help and materials from the overseas. So the war breaks out. It is the greatest war in American history. There are 3 million involved in the war, but 600,000 die. It is the only war in America in history.2Scarlett helps Melanie witho
23、ut any repay. When Ashley takes part in the army, and goes away, Melanie has to stay at Atlanta. She is looked after by Scarlett, especially, when she gives birth to a child, Pittypat forsakes her, but Scarlett dose not. She always takes care of Melanie till Melanie gives birth to the child. After i
24、t, Melanie whispers to her, “Thank you.”Then Scarlett is very tired, her mind is a vacuum, and the world is vacuum. There has been no life before this endless day and there would be none hereafter, only a heavily hot night, only the sound of her hoarse tired breathing, only the sweat trickling coldl
25、y from armpit to waist, from hip to knee, clammy, sticky, and chilling. Scarlett makes herself tired only in order to look after Melanie well. Actually Scarlett could give up Melanie, there is no good for her, and Ashley doesnt belong to her, too. Even later, when Scarlett turns to Ashley for help,
26、Ashley rejects her unexpectedly. At last Melanie persuades him, he has to promise Scarlett to go back to Tara.Scarlett is kind-hearted. Some people say, Scarlett helps Melanie because she thinks Melanie is Ashleys wife. She helps Melanie, then Ashley might be moved and feel grateful. She also promises to look after Melanie for Ashley. And she also wants Ashley to turn back to her. She still thinks Ashley doesnt love Melanie. But if she helps Melanie, she has purpose. Yet, she helps Auntie Pittypat, and then she has no purpose.
