1、Module 4 Home alone Unit 1 I can look after myself, although it wont be easy for me.,1. plenty of 大量的；充足的 【点拨】plenty of意为“大量的；充足的”。如： Make sure you eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. 保证你吃了大量的新鲜水果与蔬菜。,【辨析】plenty of, lots of, a lot of, many, much与a great/large number of 它们都有“大量的；许多的”的意思，但也有区别。
2、（1）plenty of和lots of, a lot of相似，后面接可数名词和不可数名词均可，接可数名词时谓语动词用复数，接不可数名词时谓语动词用单数。如： There are plenty of/lots of/a lot of people in the playground. 操场上有许多人。,Plenty of/Lots of/A lot of water is wasted every day. 每天有大量的水被浪费。 （2）many只能修饰可数名词复数。如： So many stars are in the sky. 天上有如此多的星星。 （3）much只能修饰不可数名词。如：
3、 He ate so much food that he had got a stomach ache. 他吃了如此多的食物以致于他都胃疼了。,（4）a number of意为“一些”，相当于some，如果要表示“许多”的意思，就要加上强语势形容词large/great（只可修饰复数可数名词）。如： A large number of people have left. 很多人都走了。,2. miss v. 错过；想念 【点拨】miss作动词，意为“错过；想念”。如： So am I, but I cant miss two weeks of school. 我也是（很遗憾），但我不能错过两周
4、的课。 I really miss my friends now. 我现在真的很想念我的朋友们。,【延伸】miss还有以下意思： （1）意为“没赶上”。如： He arrived too late and missed the train. 他来得太迟了，错过了火车。 （2）意为“避开”。如： If you go early, youll miss the traffic jam. 如果你早点去，你将可以避开交通堵塞。,3. wake up 唤醒（某人） 【点拨】wake up意为“唤醒（某人）”，当被叫醒的对象是人称代词时，要用其宾格形式，且必须放在短语中间；当被叫醒的对象是名词时，可放在短
5、语中间，也可放在短语后面。如： My mother woke me up very early this morning. 今天早晨妈妈很早就叫醒了我。 Tom, thanks for waking my cousin up/ waking up my cousin every day. 汤姆，谢谢你每天叫我表弟起床。,4. a couple of 两个 【点拨】a couple of意为“两人；两件事物”或“几个人；几件事物”。如： I saw a couple of men get out. 我看见有两个男人出去了。 We went there a couple of years ago.

Your train is about to leave. 您的火车要开了。 【点拨】be about to do sth.意为“就要/正要做某事”，指马上就要进行的动作，意义上相当于be going to do sth.，但不与表示将来的时间状语连用。如： She looked as if she was about to cry. 她看上去好像要哭了。,【延伸】当be about to do sth.与when引导的时间状语从句连用时，表示正打算做什么事情时突然发生了由when引导的从句表示的事情。如： I was about to go out when t
7、he rain started. 我刚要出门，这时下起雨来。,2. Im sure Ive forgotten something. 我确定我忘了某事。 【点拨】此句句型为：be sure （+that）+宾语从句，表示主句主语对宾语从句中涉及的事物所作出的判断，意为“确信某事一定”。如： Im not sure whether Ive met him before 我不能确定以前是否见到过他。,【延伸】be sure还有以下搭配： （1）“be sureofabout+名词/动名词”意为“确信；对有把握”。但在接名词时，be sure of侧重指主语对某抽象事物的确信无疑；而be sure
8、about则侧重指主语对某具体事物的确信无疑。如： He is sure of success 他自信会成功的。 If you are not sure about the situation in the world, you can read the newspaper every day 如果你对世界形势不大了解，你可以每天看看报纸。,【注意】若后面要接反身代词，则只能用be sure of，即be sure of oneself，意为“有自信心”。如： Joan will sit for an important examination next week, but she is no
9、t sure of herself 琼下周要参加一个重要考试，但她对自己没有信心。 （2）“be sure+不定式”表示说话人对句子主语做出的判断，认为句子主语“必定；必然会；准会”。如： It is sure to rain天一定会下雨。,【注意】“be sure+不定式”用在祈使句中不是表示判断，而是表示对对方的要求，意为“务必要；一定要”。如： Be sure not to forget it！ 千万别忘记呀！,3. So am I, but I cant miss two weeks of school. 我也是（很遗憾），但是我不能错过两周的课。 【点拨】“so+be动词/助动词/情
10、态动词+主语”这一结构表示自己与前一个人的情况相同或同意前一个人的说法，意为“也这样”。在这儿是承接上一句贝蒂妈妈的话：Im sorry you cant come with us.，表示“我也很遗憾你无法与我们同行”。如：,Joe was a little upset, and so was I. 乔有点不开心，我也有点儿。 He has been ill, and so has his wife. 他一直生着病，他妻子也一样。 Neil left just after midnight, and so did Jack. 尼尔一过午夜就走了，杰克也是。,【延伸】当表示与上文所述否定情况相同时，应该用“neither+be动词/助动词/情态动词+主语”这一结构。如： Mary isnt outgoing, neither am I. 玛丽不外向，我也是（不外向）。,
