1、Hardship is our best teacher外国语言文学学院08英语专业1班 杨凯 2008300340004 It was also a mind-numbingly cold winter morning just like now. Piercing winds wildly roaring and invasive chill penetrating into every cell, a pretty plain teenage girl living in a far-flung village in the south of China rose very early.
2、 She had to cover a long distance of rocky roads before reaching her school. And after school, piles of homework as well as loads of housework awaited her anxiously. However, despite the almost unbearable burden, dignity and productivity have never been absent from her life. Yes. She is such an extr
3、aordinary girl. No charming look. No versatile talents. No genius intelligence. She is ordinary enough to be obscure, but she seems destined to be remarkable. Her parents were killed in a truck traffic accident a couple of years ago, leaving her to only feeble grandmother who were in her late years.
4、 The cruel disaster deprived her of almost everything except her faith, her belief and her burning desire to survive, to strive and to embrace success. She told her grandmother that she didnt want to drop out, that she didnt want to surrender to the so-called destiny and that she didnt want to be st
5、ricken down by all the seemingly insurmountable difficulties. So her grandmother went out from dawn to dusk to collect rubbish for earning a pittance of money, and she also did a part-time job which I suppose not every one of us here can endure doing. Since they lived near a big coal mine, she made
6、use of her spare time to carry heavy loads of coal on her tender shoulders. One load. Two loads. Three loads. The list can stretch longer and longer, and it is these hundreds of thousands of loads that finally laid a solid foundation for her schooling and her being outstanding. Finally, in the Natio
7、nal College Entrance Examination, she ranked the third in the whole Hunan Province and was successfully admitted to the top university of China-the Peking University. She won it and she made it. The modest girl teaches me a simple lesson which has been repeated by so many saints so many times. That
8、is, hardship is our best teacher. Indeed, hardship is our most helpful teacher. It is hardship that stimulates us to be brave when confronted with challenges. It is hardship that makes us aware that when we encounter problems, we ourselves are the solutions. It is hardship that presents us with these vital choices: to go or to stay, to struggle or to indulge, to stretch forward or to retreat backward. They are all about our own choices.
