18、ey were working in the cotton field. Then Philip looked down at me and told me to wait. He ran away and after a while came back with a long rope. What could he do? He was small and not strong enough to pull me up out of the well. He tied one end of the rope to a tree nearby and threw the other end to me. Then I climbed up the rope and got out of the well. I thanked Philip. It was Philip, my young brother of five, who saved my life. I will never forget that.
