1、Eating in American中国菜着重色、香、味,西餐讲究实惠。初到美国餐馆用餐,应该注意如下事项:1)选择合适的餐馆(如:家庭式餐馆、特色餐馆以及自助式餐馆等);2)餐馆营业时间(上午11:30开门营业,直到夜晚);3)一般都应事先预订餐位:4)到达餐馆后,不能径直地到餐桌旁入桌,除非餐厅有“随意就坐”的告示;5)付款时,别忘了留给服务员一定比例的小费(一般为实际总额的10%15%)。Eating out is one of the joy of being in the USA.The food is usually good and often excellent;the pri

2、ces are reasonable ;and the service is mostly fine.Choosing a Restaurant 选择餐馆Some restaurants are open for breakfast;others are open twenty-four hours a day.A number of restaurants call themselves family restaurants.Many of these serve no alcohol and have fairly restricted menus which include steaks

3、,hamburgers,omelettes(炒蛋)and sandwiches,and all are at very reasonable prices.They may also serve smaller and cheaper childrens portios(份餐).Note that many American restaurants are speciatlyrestaurants .They may serve only,or mainly ,steaks ,seafood,etc.When to Eat 供餐时间Many restaurants,especially the

4、 more expensive ones,open at about 11:30a.m.(midday,rather than 1p.m.,is the most normal time for lunch in the USA),and some remain open until the evening,so it is possible to order a meal throughout the afternoon.In many areas it is usual for people to leave work and go out for an evening meal at 5

5、p.m.or 6p.m.,than waiting until later.Reserving a Table 预订餐位Eating out is rather popular in the USA.And it is often necessary to make a reservation.You will sometimes see short queues of people waiting for tables at restaurants-its more pleasant to wait in the bar ,of course,if there is one-but ther

6、e queues more quickly.Arriving at Restaurant 到达餐馆When you arrive at most restaurant,you should not just go in and sit down-unless you see a sign saying Please seat yourself.Usually you will have to wait for a hostessor captain(领班)to escort(陪同)you to a table .Often there will be a sign that reads Ple

7、ase wait to be seated.Do not expect to share a table with other parties,even if the restaurant is crowed .It just isnt done.Many restaurant have a no-smoking section,in some place by lows.One excellent American custom is that after you have sat down your waiter or waitress will often bring you a gla

8、ss or water(with ice naturally)and will keep on refilling it throughout the meal.(Most American are incapable of eating a meal without drinking something at the same time.)When your waiter or waitress takes your order,it is not very normal for one person to order for the whole table.Each person orde

9、rs separately ,except in the most expensive restaurants.Summoning a waiter 召唤侍者You may find your waiter unusually friendly.He may ask you how you are (Youre supposed just to say Fine),inquire whether you have a good day and ,later on say that he hopes you will enjoy your meal.To summon a waiter in a

10、 American restaurant you may call Bill,or Mary,or Claude,or whatever.Waiters and waitresses often actually introduce themselves when they first come to your table or wear name tags,you are permitted to use their first names.Paying the Bill 付款The bill (often called the check)comes usually with tax ad

11、ded but no service chare-though some restaurant do now add a service charge.The etiquette(规矩)books say that you should leave a ten per cent tip(小费)for lunch,fifteen per cent for dinner.The tip should be calculated on the basis of the total before the addition of tax.At many restaurant you can ask th

12、e waiter to bring the bill and than pay at a cash desk on the way out.American FoodYou are what you eat.Nutrition experts often use this saying to promote better eating habits.What we put in our mouths does become a part of us.But we can look at this statement another way.What we eat reflects who we

24、 of personal tastes.The food may be international or regional.Sometimes its fast,and sometimes its not so fast.It might be junk food,or maybe its natural food.In any case,the style is all-American.美国文化是你吃什么就成为什么样子这句话的好写照。美国人代表了范围广泛的背景和想法。在美国可享受到的各式食物正反映出个人品味的多样化。这食物可能是国际性也可能是地区性的;有时是快餐,有时也不见得;它可能是垃圾

25、食物,也可能是天然食品。然而无论如何,它们都是美式的世界各地的饮食文化 意大利面包大致可分为软式和硬式两种。软式的有牛奶卷、蜂蜜面包、玉米面包、香蕉面包等,适合早餐食用。硬式面包中除了面粉外,多加了麦麸、裸麦、燕麦、玉米面粉做出健康高纤维面包,一般当主食佐餐。 英国人对早餐非常讲究。英国餐馆中所供应的餐点种类繁多,有果汁、牛奶、咖啡、水果、蛋类、肉类、麦粥类、面包及果酱等。 晚餐对英国人来说也是日常生活中最重要的一部分,他们选择的用餐时间通常较晚,而且都是边吃边喝边聊,一顿晚餐可能要花上他们好几个钟头! 日本人以大米为主食,鱼和蔬菜为副食。早餐吃得相对较多且丰富,午餐较为简单,晚餐很受重视。早餐通常是:一个鸡蛋,一碗米饭,一块烤鱼或火腿肠,一盘蔬菜与水果,一小碟咸菜,一碗酱汤。当然也有一部分年轻人习惯于西式早餐,往往是一片面包涂上黄油或果酱,一杯牛奶或果汁、咖啡。午餐多为快餐,如拉面、咖哩饭、盒饭、面包加牛奶或咖啡。晚餐:一碗米饭,豆腐,海虾12尾,生蔬菜,啤酒或清酒,餐后水果,酸奶。寿司(sushi)是把生鱼片、生虾放在加了醋的米饭中后用手挤压做成的饭团。天妇罗(tempura)是日本名菜。它的做法是把鱼、虾等海鲜或香菇、藕、紫苏叶、胡萝卜、洋葱等蔬菜,用植物油炸至外酥内嫩、鲜香可口。
