Grades of Se
23、rvice and Line Security (UL 365, UL 609, UL 1023, UL 1076, UL 1610, UL 1635) RATIONALE UL standards UL 365, UL 609, UL 1023, UL 1076, UL 1610 and UL 1635 currently assign Grades of Service for Burglar alarm equipment. The grade designation (A, AA, B, BB, C, CC) for the equipment depends on such fact
24、ors as construction, supervision of initiating device and signaling circuits, central station ringback, and monitoring of the signaling channel against surreptitious compromise. Currently ULs Modular Burglar Alarm Certifi cates designate three line-security classifi cation types: no line security, s
25、tandard line security, and encrypted line security. Removing the grades of service designations from the equipment standards and incorporating requirements that defi ne standard line security and encrypted line security requirements will align the equipment standards with the installation standards.
26、 Therefore, UL proposes to remove the grade of service designations in these standards. PROPOSALS The proposals for this topic are located in the attached appendices as follows: UL 365, Appendix A: paragraphs 1.4, 1.5, 1.7, 57.1, 58.1, 58.2, 58.3, 59.1, 59A.1, 59A.2, 59A.3, 63.1, 66.1.1, 67.1, 69.1,

Remote Programming (UL 365, UL 609, UL 1023, UL 1076, UL 1610, UL 1635) RATIONALE Many alarm system functions/features can now be programmed from remote locations (i.e., away from either the protected premises or the central station) by either the subscriber
30、 or central station staff. To bring the standards in line with current technology, performance criteria (alarm signal verifi cation and acknowledgement requirements) for remote programming needs to be addressed in the applicable standards. These performance criteria have been designed to prevent una
31、uthorized persons from reprogramming and/or otherwise compromising the security functions of the alarm system. SEPTEMBER 29, 2003SUBJECT 1610-4- Copyright Underwriters Laboratories Inc. 32、6 00:17:40 MDTNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS -,-,- UL proposes to add requirements to UL 365, UL 609, UL 1023, UL 1076, UL 1610 and UL 1635 to address remote programming of premise control equipment. The proposed requirements relate to signal verifi cation and ackno

Currently these standards do not address remote programming requirements; therefore UL proposes new requirements to address the operation of remote programming features. Product Function Marking (UL 365, UL 609, UL 1023, UL 1076, UL
35、 1610, UL 1635) RATIONALE UL proposes to clarify the product function marking requirements currently specifi ed in the Marking section of these standards. The proposals provide specifi c product information and support modular certifi cate designations used by certifi cation agencies. The proposed m
36、arkings will provide useful information and be benefi cial to Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs), end users, and installers, relative to the equipment product function. Identifying the application and signaling function of the system is benefi cial to the local AHJ, as the information will help
37、them correctly identify the type of alarm system so they can properly include this information on the modular burglar alarm certifi cate. In addition, in UL 365, UL 609, UL 1076, UL 1610 and UL 1635, the marking permanency requirement is covered in other paragraphs in each MARKING section. Therefore
38、, the phrase permanently marked and or permanent and is proposed to be deleted from each of the paragraphs identifi ed below (with the exception of paragraph 86.16 of UL 1023, which is proposed to be added and does not, therefore, contain the marking permanency requirement). Accordingly, UL proposes to add the term acknowledgment signal to the Glossary section of UL 365, UL 1076, UL 1610 and UL 1635. The phrase return signal is not de

To be consistent with other industry terminology, UL also proposes to add the following terms to the Glossary section of UL 1076 and UL 1610: Digital Alarm Communicator (DAC), Hardwire Key Device, Multiplexing, Pa
43、cket Switched Data Network (PSDN), and Signal Transmission Methods; and to UL 365: Digital Alarm Communicator (DAC), Hardwire Key Device, and Signal Transmission Methods. These terms are all related to the requirements proposed in this bulletin. PROPOSALS The proposals for this topic are located in

45、.1 5. Two-Way Radio as a Multiplex System (UL 365, UL 1076, UL 1610) RATIONALE As proposed under item 4 of this bulletin, a multiplex system is defi ned as a signaling method using wire path, cable carrier, radio, or combinations of these methods characterized by the simultaneous and/or sequential t
46、ransmission and reception of multiple signals in a communication channel including means for positively identifying each such signal. Due to changes in technology, two-way radios are often relied upon in the same way as a multiplex system. Currently, UL 365, UL 1076 and UL 1610 do not include a two-
47、way radio in the requirements of a multiplex system. In order to clarify that a two-way radio system is considered a multiplex system and must meet the same performance requirements as a multiplex system, UL proposes to revise the requirements for a multiplex system such that they include two-way ra
48、dio systems. UL proposes to delete item (d) of paragraph 67.3 of UL 365 to clarify that the requirements of two-way radio systems shall also meet the requirements of multiplex systems.
