After the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack, the normal cycle turned into an unusual downward cycle. Fear of long queu

Security improvements also add costs to airlines and airports, which are passed on to passengers. Short-distance travel bears a larger share of the burden because security costs are based on boardin
36、gs and are a larger share of total costs for shorter trips. In time, however, this short-term recession will end, for the relationship between traffic and economic development will once again play its role. The major driver of long-term air travel growth is economic growth. Another cause of air trav
37、el growth is globalization of trade. The Internet further promotes travel by opening up global opportunities to many more people. Airline network service improvements and declining fares lead to traffic expansion. Government deregulation enhances airline competition, which in turn encourages lower f
38、ares and more flights.Consumer confidence and business profits can have strong influences on air travel demand. Travelers treat air travel in the same way they treat durable goods such as computers and automobiles. When incomes go up, people tend to buy more and travel more. The current forecast shows that air travel will soon begin to grow, and an average annual growth of 5.1 percent is predicted for the next 20 years.
