1、PaintingprocedureGeneral1. All steel to build this vessel should be coated with inorganic zinc shop primer prior to being used .2. The application work to be performed in accordance with the builders practice and the paint manufacturers recommendation, application should be preformed under the guida

2、nce of on-site technical representative.3. The colors of final paint are to be in accordance with owners standard. The color of each coat except final paint is to be decided by the builder in consideration of manufacturers color card.4. The position or area which are not specified in the scheme of p

3、aint of this specification shall be applied same as the surroundings.Executive standard:ISO 08501-1 :1988 steel surface rust grade and surface preparation grades before paint application.CB/Z227 -86 coating film thickness measuring meansPrimary preparation1. all steel plates used for the constructio

4、n of the vessel and with thickness same or more than 6 mm are to be shot blasted by automatic line to ISO 8501 -1:1988 Sa2.5(hereinafter all mentioned de-rusting grades are according to ISO Standard),after blasting, the surface profile (RZ) should be between 35-85 microns, equals, to the profile of

5、ISO8503 Medium Grade to Course .2. Grit or blasting to Sa2.5 or power tools grit to St3 may be applied instead of shot blasting is considered impractical.3. After surface preparation, all steel material must be protected by one coat of inorganic zinc silicate shop primer with DFT (Dry Film Thickness

6、) of 15-25 microns.4. Different color shop primer to be used for mild ad high tensile steel plates and sections5. all steel plates and sections can not be used for vessel if no managedSecond preparation1. Before block sandblasting, port of all pipe that are installed should bewrapped with protective

7、 material to avoid incursion by dust. The galvanized pipe in various water tanks should be protected to avoid damaging the galvanized film during de- rusting.2. for secondary preparation, grinding or blasting to be chosen according to different positions and different type of paints, to achieve rele

8、vant cleaning grade.3. Secondary surface treatment including de-rusting and cleaning must be carried out before steel surface being coated with the first primer of the coat schedule system. When sandblasting or grinding is applied, only sweep blasting or grinding and clean to the intact shop primer

9、area of steel surface.4. In block stage, welding seams and damaged shop primer in the position such as exposed decks, outside of deckhouse, void space, bilge well etc to be grit blasted to Sa2.5 and/ or grind to St 3, hull plate, ballast tanks, fresh water tanks should be grit blasted to Sa2.5 then

10、cleaned with vacuum cleaner, brush, compressed air, etc, the standard of dust cleanliness should be equal to, or better than, ISO 8502-3 class 2. Intact shop primer will be abraded by light grit sweeping to keep the original surface profile retained, and foreign matters such as oil or grease contami

11、nation, zinc salt should be removed.5. After blocks assembly, the rusted area, weld seams of blocks joints and damaged area on/in hull plate outside including topsides, exposed decks, outside of deckhouse, ballast tanks, chain lockers, void space etc, should be ground to St3 and then touched up as p

12、er the specified system.6. the fresh water tank should be basting to Sa2.5 at hull stage after of all outfitting and hull ventilated and fresh water washing according to maker product data sheet.7. Welding seams and damaged shop primers in other positions where alkyd paints, bitumen solution, inhibi

13、tive oil etc to be applied should be ground to St2. Intact shop primer will be cleaned by proper method to remove foreign matters such as oil or grease contamination, zinc salt and dust.8. Areas within 100mm to erection seams, welding beads which should be pressure tested, when they are cleaned, the

16、t coatings certifications of quality and product technical specifications.2. Inspect coatings variety, specification, type, colour, storage time.Application of paints1. At block stage and on dock/after launching , forced ventilation and suitable humidity are required to improve the vapor of thinner

17、and the drying/curing progress of film, during application and before the thorough dry of paints.(Enclosed water tanks need at least 5 times per hour of air exchange.)2. In aspects of scaffolding, lighting, ventilation, painting interval, choose and adjust of painting equipment, Yard must follow the

18、 requests in the technical data-sheet of maker and suggestions from the technical service of maker. Relevant safety rules must be fulfilled.3. Any of coats must be alied according to requirements of surface treatment, substrate temperature, temperature of coat, relatively humidity of surrounding and

19、 coat interval specified in the product data of maker。4. During application relatively humidity of air must be under 85% or paint maker data sheet recommendation, and temperature of steel substrate must be 3 C above the dew point of air.5. All application areas should be free from rust, salt, water,

20、 oil and other pollutants before applying.6. Painting works shall be performed in close space under environment condition by airless spray as far as possible, but smaller substructure such as mast, pipes, angle steel, water hole to be coated by brushing and rolling.7. The sharp edges in W.B Bilge Se

21、wage tank F. W tanks and the E. R below lower grating shall be grinded to R more than or same 2mm,or no less than 3 pass standard.8. Copper, copper alloy, aluminum alloy, F. R. P pipe and stainless not to be painted in general unless otherwise specified.9. If it is adopted to airless spray, before a

22、pplication these areas should be stripe coated with brushing such as hand-welding, free edges lighting holes, areas within 40mm far from edge, back panel of shaped substrates, back spherical surface of flat-bulb steel, back of pipes, corners and difficult of access.10. After the pressure test finish

23、ed on the erection joints seam and the welding seam, touching up should be apply on the location, when touched up , the type of coat, gradation, thickness should be same as surrounding and coating in order. The layer around touching up area should be grinded with slope and be smooth at the overlap l

24、ocation to avoid uneven,11. Pre-erection joint of hull block which is erected at any location, to be painted before leak test and not to be considered as block erection joint. if its full penetration welding, paint should be done as block as block stage.12. The tanks of the light waterline should be

25、 finished coating on the slipway as possibly to avoid condensation caused by temperature difference inside tank to affect coating after launching. Bottom of E R etc. should be touch up finish before launch too, to avoid oil and water feeding bottom of tank to increase cleaning work.13. The finish co

26、at should be applied after welding, flame treating and outfitting are all finished on the application area.14. While applying other procedures should avid being performed at the same time, especially naked flame must be prohibited within the application area and nearby,15. Above the water line of hu

27、ll (including exposed decks, bulwarks, deckhouse,funnel, foremast and radar mast etc.) The final coat paint must be implementing before deliver.Quality requirement of applying paints1. Exposed main deck shell, deck house exterior and large outfitting which are after application the coating can be dr

In principle the film thickness management is in order to control the total D F T (dry film thickness) of a coating system. But if the primer and the topcoat have absolutely different property

32、and performance, then the DFT of primer coats and the DFT of topcoats must be controlled separately.2. Under water hull film thickness to be checked before and after application of anti-fouling paint and recorded.3. Whole area, 90% of the readings must not be less than the specified DFT, andthe rest

33、 10% readings must not be less than 90%of the specified DFT.4. Thickness of epoxy paints mot more than 2.2 double specified DFT.Note:1. Specified DFT mentioned above means the DFT specified in the painting scheme agreed by yard and maker and approved by the owner.2. Three readings should be taken ar

34、ound one point. Take the average as the final reading.Quality check procedures1. Qualitycheck procedures should be carried out as follows:1.1Self-chesk by the quality checks team of application unit.1.2 Inspection department of shipyard check and accept, and sign the acceptance sheet.1.3 Deliver ite

35、ms according to chart 2 to ship owner representative, who check it out and sign the acceptance sheet.2. Check quality for de-rusting &coating items See check items in chart 2Note:The inspection of coatings to be done at all stages of coating for outside shell, the checking of paint dry film thicknes

36、s to be carried out by builder and makers representative and owner, and spot check to be conducted in the presence of owners representative.Painting schedule1. Painting scheme for the parts and spaces which are not specified in this painting scheme to be similar to surrounding space or comparable spaces.2. Painting schedule to see following table.3.
