He was a representative figure in the United States lost generation The life, world and society of his works have shown a feeling of confusion and uncertainty.The main content of this book is that the old fisherman Santiago doesnt catch any fish for 84 days. At first, a boy nam
4、ed Manolin follows him .However after forty days without catching a fish, the child is arranged by their parents to another boat up because they think the old man is unlucky. Thus on the eighty-fifth day, He unexpectedly caught a marlin even bigger than the boat. Santiago makes the fish pulling his
5、skiff. Two days and two nights pass in this manner, during which the old man bears the tension of the line with his body. On the third day, the fish begins to circle the skiff. Thus Santiago begins the fight between the sharks and himself. Finally reaching the shore before dawn on the next day, Sant
6、iago struggles on the way to his shack, carrying the heavy mast on his shoulder. Once home, he goes to his bed and falls into a deep sleep. A group of fishermen gather the next day around the boat where the fishs skeleton is still attached. Tourists at the nearby caf mistakenly take it for a shark.
7、Manolin, worried during the old mans endeavor, cries upon finding him safe asleep. The boy brings him newspapers and coffee. When the old man wakes, they promise to fish together once again. Upon his return to sleep, Santiago dreams of his youthof lions on an African beach.The words that inspired me
8、 most in this article maybe is the “Man is not made for defeat. A man can be destroyed but not defeat.” This is Santiagos living faith, and also the idea that the author wanted to express in The Old Man and the Sea. The old man never gets one fish during 84 days, but he never thinks about giving up.
9、 He just still struggles for the brief he used to hold. Yes, at last, he failed, but we cant deny he is a powerhouse in the spirit. And in our real lives, there are all kinds of difficulties that we need to deal with. Some people choose escape, because they think they cant overcome them. They scared
10、. But for me, I like it. I think the problems are good for me. Every time I surmount it, I enjoy that kind of achievability. I enjoy the process I solving the problems, and this can be the precious experience in my lives. But sometimes the problems may be harder than our imaginations; we try all kin
11、ds of ways to solve them but still failed, so, at this time, we need to learn the old mans spirit. I think the live is not complete without fail and pain. Its impossible that everything goes smoothly in our lives. We can grow up only if we experience the pain and harm. Just like choice. We face all
12、kinds of choices every day, and sometimes we dont know how to choose or what we need to choose. In fact, we cant choose, thats because we have already had something we really want in our heart, so we dont need to choose. Santiago teach me what is courage, and teach me insist and never say never. Act
13、ually, that reminds me of a short video I watched in the high school. Its a inspirational video. I still remember the first time I watched it, I cried. This video is about a game named “death crawl”. A group is practicing so that they have enough energy in the football game. Now, at this time I dont

In our lives, sometimes we didnt do something well, we may say, well, Ive already tried my best. We may think its OK, that is enough. The standard we give to ourselves is too low, but t
15、he interesting thing is, we always ask other people to be excellent, and the standard we give to other is so high. When we dont do it well, we say weve already tried our best, but we never strain every never. The reason why we havent been successful is we dont have aims, dont have a real dream, we a
16、re not confident, dont have a great coach, and dont know how much the potential we have. We all read this book, The Old Man and the Sea, but why we didnt learn the spirit in it? Compared to Santiago, the condition we have is so great nowadays, but we become more and more frail, especially our teenag
17、ers. Most of them always say they dont believe something at all, and write those inactive or negative words in their blog, I just wonder why they become so negative. This is the most beautiful time in a whole life, we need to treasure it, love it. An old man can struggle for 2 days and 2 nights, but
18、 look at us, as the teenagers, why we cant? “Lost generation”? I think we just dont know how much, how better we can do. Potential. Everyones potential is infinite. We didnt do well, thats because we told ourselves we cant do it in advance. Just because we dont believe ourselves, so we cant do anyth
19、ing. In my opinion, when we face the problems, maybe the best way we can do is just pretend to be someone else. I think for Santiago, maybe at that time, he pretended himself as a strong man, maybe Schwarzenegger. And then, he really made it. He thought he was Schwarzenegger, so he got a lot of powe
20、r and energy, so he can catch the fish, and fight with so many sharks, and finally, went back to home. During the trip, that is the faith supports him to go all the way to the coast.Our life is not plain sailing and it is constituted by the difficulties and problems. The solution to the problem is not only the witness of our growth but also make us more mature. In order to make our life much more meaningful, let us face the challenges of life bravely.
