Its construction began（commenced）as early as 1946 and it took 24 years to complete this 53.85km submarine tunnel. It is evident from the diagrams that Seikan Railway Tunnel is a domestic construction while Mont-Blanc Tunnel is an international one. However, the undersea Seikan Railway Tunnel is by far longer than Mont-Blanc Tunnel which was built on land and its construction took much longer to accomplish.,
