This European Standard is one of a series consisting of seven standards dealing with floating leisure articles for

、use on and in the water. Floating leisure articles for use on and in the water Part 1: Classification, materials, general requirements and test methods Part 2: Consumer information Part 3: Additional specific safety require- ments and test methods for class A devices Part 4: Additional specific safe

、class E devices Compliance of a product to this standard requires that the relevant vertical part and additionally the Parts 1 and 2 have to be met. 33、2007 (E) 4 Introduction The safe use of floating leisure articles depends not only on the safety and reliability of the products in use but also on the adequate knowledge of the consumer/user about the risks related to water activities. The right information when selecting and buying inflatable leis

、ure articles is a further important aspect. Which device can be given to what user? What is the adequate area of use? What performance can I expect from the product, what are the limitations? What is the adequate behaviour on the water? In particular children need special supervision and care. Even

、if the products dealt with in this series of standards are only intended for use by swimmers that does not at all eliminate the well known risks which can not technically be avoided because they depend more on behaviour than on technical performance. This part of the standard deals therefore in part

、icular with all aspects to inform the consumer/ user before buying and during use about major risks and appropriate behaviour. Since floating leisure articles are products which are traded world wide the issue of language and comprehensibility of explanations and information play an important role.

、Within the EU consumer information has already to cope with 25 different languages. Therefore, where ever possible, the authors of this standard tried to develop a non verbal communication by drafting commonly understood pictograms for the main and most important information. In particular those whi

、ch have to be present during use. 39、 It specifies the requirements related to consumer information before buying and during use which are common to all product groups (classes A to E) as they are dealt with in the specific vertical standards parts 3 to 7. The specific vertical standards determine the relevant specific selection of inf
