、ights reserved iv Foreword ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a sub

、ject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (I

、EC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an Intern

、ational Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this International Standard may be the subject of patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights

、. International Standard DIS 21581 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 165, Timber Structures, Working group WG7, Joints Made with Mechanical Fasteners. It specifies test methods for static and cyclic lateral loading as a basis for determining the characteristics of shear walls for use in win

、d and seismic design. This is the first edition of ISO/DIS 21581. DRAFT 2009 Licensed Copy: London South Bank University, South Bank University, 02/02/2009 03:46, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI ISO/DIS 21581 ISO 2008 All rights reserved v Introduction Evaluation of the structural performance of shear wa

、lls intended to resist forces generated during wind and seismic actions is based on static and/or reversed cyclic load testing in some regulatory jurisdictions. The objective of this Standard is to provide test method appropriate for static and cyclic lateral loading as a basis for determining the c

、haracteristics of shear walls for use in wind and seismic design. The cyclic displacement schedule in ISO Standard 16670 which was developed in consultation with a group of international experts, was also used in this standard. Supplementary information is given in Annex A to provide the rationale b

The standard does not include criteria for parameters which are, at times, stipulated in national standards or building codes. This standard can be

、used to determine those parameters under the following conditions: Method I: the boundary conditions are designed to produce mainly the shear response of the wall and ensure that the full shear capacity of the wall is achieved. Method II: the boundary conditions are designed to produce mainly the ro
