Problem Title: Improving Snow-Clearing Operations on Airport Runways II. Research Problem Statement: Airport managers ha

3、ve frequently expressed a need to advance the technology of large capacity snow blowers. At present, snow blowers do not meet the real-world capacity or speed requirements for large-scale, efficient runway clearing operations. Snow blowers are typically used in tandem with multi-task equipment MTEs

4、to clear a snow- covered runway. MTEs are large trucks that perform several functions at once: they plow, broom, and blast snow, and often operate at high speeds (25+ mph). MTEs are relatively efficient and because they work so quickly, must often wait for the slower-performing snow blowers to compl

5、ete a clearing run. III. Objective: The purpose of this project is to develop two specific results: best management practices for airport operators to clear snow-covered runways; and ideal performance specifications for manufacturers to use in developing improved snow-clearing equipment. IV. Researc

6、h Proposed: Investigate the capabilities of current snow blower equipment in relation to MTEs. Determine if modifications can be made to snow blowers to meet the performance of MTEs. Determine BMPs for airport operators to maximize the performance of their current equipment, where a mix of low- and

7、high-efficiency equipment may be in use. Determine an industry specification for manufacturing future high-performance snow- blower equipment V.
