、 ATIS-0600307.2007 FIRE RESISTANCE CRITERIA - IGNITABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR EQUIPMENT ASSEMBLIES, ANCILLARY NON-METALLIC APPARATUS, AND FIRE SPREAD REQUIREMENTS FOR WIRE AND CABLE A AMERICAN MERICAN N NATIONAL ATIONAL S STANDARD FOR TANDARD FOR T TELECOMMUNICATIONSELECOMMUNICATIONS The Alliance for

、Telecommunication Industry Solutions (ATIS) is a technical planning and standards development organization that is committed to rapidly developing and promoting technical and operations standards for the communications and related information technologies industry worldwide using a pragmatic, flexib

、le and open approach. Over 1,100 participants from over 300 communications companies are active in ATIS 22 industry committees and its Incubator Solutions Program. AMERICAN NATIONAL STANDARD Approval of an American National Standard requires review by ANSI that the requirements for due process, cons

、ensus, and other criteria for approval have been met by the standards developer. Consensus is established when, in the judgment of the ANSI Board of Standards Review, substantial agreement has been reached by directly and materially affected interests. Substantial agreement means much more than a si

、mple majority, but not necessarily unanimity. Consensus requires that all views and objections be considered, and that a concerted effort be made towards their resolution. The use of American National Standards is completely voluntary; their existence does not in any respect preclude anyone, whether

、 he has approved the standards or not, from manufacturing, marketing, purchasing, or using products, processes, or procedures not conforming to the standards. The American National Standards Institute does not develop standards and will in no circumstances give an interpretation of any American Nati

、onal Standard. Moreover, no person shall have the right or authority to issue an interpretation of an American National Standard in the name of the American National Standards Institute. Requests for interpretations should be addressed to the secretariat or sponsor whose name appears on the title pa

The procedures of the American National Standards Institute require that action be taken periodically to reaffirm, revise, or withdraw this standard. Purchasers of American National Standard

、s may receive current information on all standards by calling or writing the American National Standards Institute. Notice of Disclaimer however, they must meet one of the other appropriate options contained in 4.1.2. See 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 regarding requirements for items such as plugs, sockets, jacks

、, terminal blocks, etc., which may form part of an enclosure. Discrete (non-electrically energized) components with overall dimensions of 1/4 in (6.3 mm) x 1/4 in (6.3 mm) x 1/4 in (6.3 mm) or less, or constituting a fuel load of 1 g (0.035 oz) or less are exempt from the requirements of 4.1.2 and 4

、.1.3. If such components are grouped in close proximity and their total mass exceeds 1 g (0.035 oz), they shall comply with 5.2. 4.1.4 Interconnect wire Individual interconnect wire and cable (copper and optic fiber) used within equipment assemblies shall satisfy the flammability requirements of VW-

、1 as specified in ANSI/UL 1581. Any wire and cable exterior to an equipment assembly shall meet the requirements of 4.2. 4.2 Fire spread requirements for wire and cable The requirements in 4.2.1 through 4.2.3 apply to wire and cable, including communications cable, optical fiber cable, dc power wire

、, and cable external to equipment assemblies. 5 -,-,- ATIS-0600307.2007 The requirements of 4.2 do not apply to OSP wire and cables. The requirements in 4.2.1 through 4.2.3 do not apply to compartmented cable entrance facilities. However, cables entering the CEF from the outside should be spliced to

、 cables that comply with 4.2.1 through 4.2.3, as appropriate, as close as is practical to the point at which the cables enter the CEF. Wire and cable installations in hollow spaces, vertical shafts, and ventilation or air-handling ducts should be so made that the possible spread of fire or products

、of combustion will not be substantially increased. All penetrations through fire-resistance rated walls, partitions, floors, or ceilings should be fire stopped using products tested to ANSI/UL 1479 (ASTM E 814), the requirements of the fire stop manufacturer and the requirements of the local model b

E

、xamples of cable types meeting these requirements are: CMP, CL2P, CL3P, OFNP, OFCP, MPP, FPLP, and CATVP. Power wire and cable shall comply with Article 300-22 of ANSI/NFPA 70. 4.2.2 Riser shafts Wire and cable in riser shafts shall comply with the requirements of ANSI/UL 1666. Examples of cable typ

、e following: UL 1685; CAN/CSA-C22.2 No. 0.3; or ANSI/IEEE 1202. Examples of cable types meeting these requirements are: CM, CL2, CL3, OFN, OFC, MP, FPL, and CATV, in addition to those specified in 4.2.1 and 4.2.2. 4.2.4 AC-Powered Wiring and Fittings All wiring, fittings, and fixtures used for AC po

The requirements in 4.3.1 through 4.3.3 apply to optical fiber cable trays or raceways constructed of combustible

、 materials and external to equipment assemblies. All optical fiber cable trays or raceways shall meet the applicable fire resistance requirements of ANSI/NFPA 70. The requirements in 4.3.1 through 4.3.3 do not apply to compartmented cable entrance facilities. However, optical fiber cable trays enter

、ing the CEF from the outside should be jointed to optical fiber cable trays/raceways that comply with 4.3.1 through 4.3.3, as appropriate, as close as is practical to the point at which the cables enter the CEF. Optical fiber cable tray/raceway installations in hollow spaces, vertical shafts, and ve

、0.5, and a maximum average optical density of 0.15, when tested in accordance with the Test For Flame Propagation and Smoke-Density Values (Plenum) ANSI/UL 2024A. A raceway marked “Plenum“ is suitable for use in ducts, plenums, or other spaces used for environmental air in accordance with Sections 7

、70-53(a) and 800-53(a) of the National Electrical Code when used to enclose optical fiber cables marked OFNP or communications cable marked CMP or CMP-OF. A raceway marked “Plenum“ is also suitable for installation in risers when used to enclose optical fiber cables marked OFNP or OFNR, or communica
