、 It supersedes BS 1244-2:1982 which is withdrawn. BS 1244-1:1956 has been declared obsolescent. The main change in this revision is the inclusion of inset sinks and enamelled sinks, with performance requirements for enamelled sinks for resistance to staining, abrasion, effect of alkali and hot water

、. Independent waste outlets for drains to inset sinks will be the subject of an amendment to this standard. The plumbing dimensions of the sinks enable water and waste fittings and other components with co-ordinated connecting dimensions to be used for the plumbing. The overall dimensions of the sin

、ks allow for alignment with items of kitchen equipment (see note). Vitreous enamel sinks and stainless steel sinks have different characteristics and will exhibit different reactions when, in use, they are exposed to certain abrasives, chemicals, etc., and the recommendations of the manufacturer sho

、uld be carefully followed. During the preparation of this revision some consideration was given to a proposal to reduce the minimum thickness of the steel from which sinks are formed. Although no action was taken, discussions are continuing and an amendment to this effect may be issued in due course

、. The question of impact testing was also discussed, and a test will be incorporated into this standard when a suitable test has been agreed. Accessory hole sizes are also the subject of discussion in Technical Committee CEN/TC7 of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and these requireme

、nts will also be incorporated into this standard when a suitable text has been agreed. NOTEAttention is drawn to BS 6222-1 which specifies co-ordinating dimensions for domestic kitchen equipment. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of Brit

Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, pages 1 to 6, an inside back cover and a back cove

、r. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. 19、9991 1 Scope This Part of BS 1244 specifies general, dimensional, performance and material requirements for sit-on and inset metal sinks for domestic purposes. Options are specified for sinks with or without overflow holes, tap holes or selected waste facilities. The standard does not specify method

、s of supporting or methods of fixing and sealing sinks. Information to be provided by the purchaser is given in Appendix A. Some test methods for assessing performance requirements of enamelled sinks are described in Appendix B, Appendix C and Appendix D. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred

、to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BS 1244 the following definitions apply. 2.1 sit-on sink a sink which when installed fits on top of and lines up with a base unit of suitable dimensions, such that the aprons of the sink form a co

、ntinuation of the sides of the base unit 2.2 inset sink a sink which is constructed to fit into an aperture in a work top, so that when installed it only projects above the working surface by an amount equal to its edge formed thickness 3 Designation 3.1 Sit-on sinks The sink shall be designated by

、one of the following type references and by the co-ordinating sizes given in Table 1 (see also Figure 1). Type A/S: single bowl, single drainer. Right or left hand. Type B/S: single bowl, double drainer. Type C/S: double bowl, single drainer. Right or left hand. Type D/S: double bowl, double drainer

、. NOTEHand of sink refers to position of drainer when viewed from the front. 3.2 Inset sinks The sink shall be designated by one of the following type references and by the dimensions given in Table 2 (see also Figure 2). Type A/I: Bowl without drainer. Type B/I: Single bowl, single drainer. Right o

、r left hand. Type C/I: Single bowl, double drainer. Type D/I: Double bowl, without drainer. Type E/I: Double bowl, single drainer. Right or left hand. Type F/I: Double bowl, double drainer. NOTEHand of sink refers to position of drainer when viewed from the front. 4 Marking 4.1 Permanent marking Sin

、ks shall be clearly and indelibly marked with the following information in such a way that it can be easily seen after installation: a) the manufacturers name or identification mark; b) the number and date of this British Standard, i.e. BS 1244-2:19881). 4.2 Other marking A warning label giving care

、 instructions shall be fixed to the interior of the sink bowl with a water based adhesive. 5 Defects When examined by an unaided eye of an experienced observer, from a distance of 600 100 mm from exposed surfaces, the sink shall be free from visible defects (see also clause 7). Carry out the visual

、examination with uniform illuminance at the surface of the sink of 300 lx and with the sink positioned so that it is between the light source and the observer. 6 Materials Sinks shall be manufactured from one of the following materials. a) Austenitic stainless steel complying with grades 304S11, 304

、S15, 304S16 or 304S31 of BS 1449-2. The thickness of the material before forming shall be a minimum of 0.83 mm. 1) Marking BS 1244-2:1988 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the r

、equirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is therefore solely the responsibility of the person making the claim. Such a declaration is not to be confused with third party certification of conformity, which may also be desirable. Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Fri Nov 24 08:
