This British Standard, which has been pre

、pared under the authority of the Scientific Glassware and Related Laboratory Apparatus Industry Standards Committee, provides a specification for iodine flasks such as are employed in analytical laboratories for the determination of iodine values. The important points for this purpose are the capaci

、ty of the cup top and the design of the long-handled stopper. The cup top specified is wider than has been commonly provided in the past, and thus has the following advantages: a) It is easier to pour from a bottle into the cup with the stopper in position. b) It is easier to clear the tap of a bure

、tte or the vapour tube of a Soxhlet extractor. c) It is easier to extract the stopper without breaking the rim of the cup. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance w

、from internal strain. 4 Construction and dimensions The flasks shall be of conical form and shall be provided with a cup top, such that when the stopper is in position it shall have a capacity of not less than 20 ml. Suitable dimensions of the two sizes of flask and of the cup top are shown in Figur

、e 1. A minimum wall thickness of 1.5 mm in any part is recommended. The stopper shall be hollow blown and closed at the lower end. Suitable dimensions are shown in Figure 1. The ground surfaces of the flasks and stoppers shall comply with the relevant requirements of BS 5721) for joint size B.24. 5

、Markings Each flask shall have permanently and legibly marked on it: a) The nominal capacity, i.e. “250 ml” or “500 ml”. b) The makers or vendors name or mark. c) An area (about 15 mm diameter) with a surface suitable for marking with pencil. d) The number of this British Standard, i.e. “BS 2375”.2)

、 1) BS 572, “Interchangeable conical ground glass joints”. 2) The mark “BS 2735” on the product is an indication by the manufacturer that it purports to comply with the requirements of this British Standard.
