、 Foreword This standard has been prepared under the direction of the Plastics and Rubber Standards Policy Committee of the British Standards Institution from a draft submitted by the British Plastics Federation. It details the requirements of products according to their fire performance identifying

、three types of products with respectively class 1, class 2 and class 3 surface spread of flame characteristics and which in the main are used in/or on buildings. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for

、their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, pages 1 to 8, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated

、(see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. 13、Introduction Cellular PVC-UE products are primarily used as an alternative to traditional building products in a variety of applications for example: claddings, fascias and decorative finishing trims. The products are characterized by a high stiffness to weight ratio due to the simultaneous formatio

、n during extrusion of a denser outer skin encapsulating a rigid closed cellular core. This relationship between the thickness and density of the outer skin and the density of the closed cellular core can be varied to obtain products with differing performance characteristics. The expansion of the co

、re during extrusion derives from the use of either physical or chemical expanding agents. Limited maintenance is necessary and they are easy to work and install (see Annex A). 1 Scope This standard describes the requirements of mono and co-extruded cellular PVC-UE profiles for non-structural buildin

、g applications, where they are subjected to surface temperatures not exceeding 50 C. Sheet and pipe products are not covered by this standard. 2 References 2.1 Normative references This British Standard incorporates, by reference, provisions from specific editions of other publications. These normat

、ive references are cited at the appropriate points in the text and the publications are listed on the inside back cover. Subsequent amendments to, or revisions of, any of these publications apply to this British Standard only when incorporated in it by updating or revision. 2.2 Informative reference

、s This British Standard refers to other publications that provide information or guidance. Editions of these publications current at the time of issue of this standard are listed on the inside back cover, but reference should be made to the latest editions. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this Bri

、 and installers using cellular PVC-UE products A.1 General Cellular PVC-UE is manufactured by a process of extruding an expanding PVC-UE material, cooling and forming it to section and finally cutting to length. Expansion of the PVC-UE material is achieved without the use of chlorofluorocarbons (CFC

、s). The products require limited maintenance which is confined to periodic washing for the sake of cosmetic appearance. Cellular PVC-UE products offer a degree of thermal insulation and good resistance to most acids and alkalis, sea water, insects and atmospheric pollution. Cellular PVC-UE products

、are resistant to dry/wet rot and fungus. A.2 Working practices Cellular PVC-UE products are easy to work using normal hand tools for cutting, drilling and shaping. Handsaws should have a fine toothed blade. Experience has shown that the use of drills and saws with straight or negative tips are parti

、cularly suitable for machining cellular PVC-UE products. Cellular PVC-UE products should always be cut and never broken. Eye protection and a coarse particle dust mask should be worn when machining products with power tools. Light industrial gloves should also be worn when handling cellular PVC-UE p

、roducts. A.3 Installation It is essential that the installation of the products should be carried out in accordance with the manufacturers instructions and any relevant current British Standards or Codes of Practice. A.4 Maintenance As cellular PVC-UE is a finished material, overpainting is not nece

、ssary. Cleaning may be carried out, if required, using a clean cloth and a solution of detergent diluted to the normal concentration. Where possible flood the PVC-UE product taking care not to abrade the surface when removing dirt. Internal surfaces should be polished with a colourless silicone furn

、iture polish if required. Particularly stubborn marks should be removed using a mild household non-scouring cream followed by washing. A.5 Transportation, handling and storage Loading and unloading from vehicles should be carried out by hand (except where preloaded into special transport containers)

、 to avoid damage to components. Storage in the products protective packaging should be on a level firm surface and stacked less than 1 m in height in such a way as to prevent collapse. A.6 Environmental information PVC-UE product off-cuts should be removed from site because they will not decompose.

、They should not be burned on site. Off-cuts can be safely disposed of in land fill sites as directed by the supplier, or can be recycled as advised by the raw material supplier. Alternatively, PVC-UE products can be incinerated without environmental risk, in correctly operated incinerators. NOTEUser

、s should seek advice from their supplier on these aspects. Annex B (normative) Method of test for colour fastness B.1 Principle Test specimens are subjected to a specified regime of weathering and the change in colour determined. B.2 Apparatus B.2.1 A weathering apparatus conforming to BS 2782-5:Met

、hod 540B:1982 fitted with a xenon arc lamp with filters which provide the nearest spectral distribution of incident radiation to that specified for simulated solar radiation given in Annex C of BS 2782-5:Method 540B:1982, but with any irradiance below 300 nm not exceeding 1 Wm2. NOTEPrecise matching

、 of this distribution is not currently attainable. Particular emphasis should be given to matching the wavelength range 300 nm to 400 nm. B.3 Test specimens Prepare 10 test specimens as described in E.3. B.4 Procedure Expose five test specimens to a total irradiation of 8 GJ/m2, integrated over the

、wavelength 300 nm to 890 nm, with a water spray cycle of 5 min on and 25 min off and a relative humidity of 65 % 5 % during the dry period. There shall also be a maximum black panel temperature at the end of the dry period of 45 C 3 C. NOTEThe irradiation may be determined by use of appropriately ca

、librated integrating detectors placed in the plane of the test specimens where available. Otherwise the duration of exposure should be computed from the manufacturers design irradiance for the stated wavelength range appropriate to the lamps, wattage schedule and filters employed. The total time of

、exposure to the lamps will normally fall within the range 2 250 h 500 h. B.5 Assessment of changes Assess the colour difference between exposed and unexposed test specimens as soon as possible after completion of the exposure period and also at at least three uniformly
