12、95 BSI 08-19991 1 Scope This Part of BS 7805 specifies the materials of manufacture, hole diameter, the range of joint thickness and performance of installed swaged collar grooved rivets with nominal shank diameters from 4.8 mm to 10 mm inclusive, and either a brazier, truss or countersunk head. 2 N

13、ormative references This Part of BS 7805 incorporates, by reference, provisions from specific editions of other publications. These normative references are cited at the appropriate points in the text and the publications are listed on the inside back cover. Subsequent amendments to, or revisions of

14、, any of these publications apply to this British Standard only when incorporate in it by updating or revision. 3 Definitions For the purposes of this Part of BS 7805 the following definitions apply. 3.1 grip gt the maximum and minimum total thickness of the work pieces to be joined together 3.2 gri

15、p capability gr the maximum and minimum total thickness of work pieces to be joined by a particular diameter of swaged collar grooved rivet 3.3 tensile load the load which the rivet is capable of withstanding prior to failure in tension, when measured under test conditions 3.4 shear load the load wh

16、ich the rivet is capable of withstanding prior to failure in shear, when measured under test conditions 3.5 hole size the diameter of the hole in the work pieces to be joined 3.6 collarside protrusion S protrusion of the fractured surface of the pin above the surface of the collar side of the joint

17、4 Materials Swaged collar grooved rivets shall be manufactured from the materials listed in Table 1. The materials shall be identified by the designation of the appropriate combination of pin/collar material required (see clause 9). 5 Finishes Carbon steel pin and collars shall be zinc plated and pa

18、ssivated in accordance with BS 7371-3:1993 Zn5A, except in the region of pin breaker grooves where the zinc plating should have a minimum thickness of 2.5 m. Aluminium alloy pins and collars shall be self finished. Stainless steel pins shall be self finished. At the discretion of the supplier stainl

19、ess steel collars shall either be self finished or zinc plated in accordance with BS 7371-3. NOTEA variety of finishes other than those specified above are available for special applications by agreement between the purchaser and manufacturer. These are outside the scope of this standard. 6 Dimensio

28、ven in Table 3. 8 General Rivets shall be free from harmful defects. Splits in periphery of heads shall not exceed 0.25 mm deep 0.5 mm wide. 9 Designation for the purposes of an enquiry or order When designing swaged collar grooved rivets the following information shall be given: a) swaged collar gr

29、ooved rivet; b) the number of this British Standard, i.e. BS 7805-1:19951); c) head style; brazier head pin (A); truss head pin (B); countersunk head pin (C); d) nominal shank diameter, in mm, e.g.; 4.8 = 048; 10 = 100; e) pin and collar material combination; NOTEThe combination of materials used fo

35、rising two plates of equal nominal thickness, axially aligned and assembled into a single lap joint by means of the test rivet, as shown in Figure A.1. The diameters of the test holes are as given in Table A.1. The plates are of alloy steel, hardened and tempered to within the range 46 HRC to 50 HRC

36、 with surface finish not exceeding 3.2 m. The test fixture shall be assembled as follows. Install the rivet in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations using the tool supplied by the manufacturer. Ensure that the total thickness of the joint is not less than 1.0 times the nominal rivet diam

37、eter when testing protruding head rivets, or 1.5 times the rivet diameter when testing countersunk head rivets, nor greater than the maximum grip length of the test rivet concerned. For rivets which have a maximum grip length less than the minimum total joint thickness specified above, use the maxim

38、um grip length as the total joint thickness. Table A.1 Diameter of holes for rivet tests A.1.1.2 Tensile testing machine, capable of applying a tensile load through self aligning grips and fitted with a cross head, the free running speed of which shall not be less than 7 mm/min nor greater than 13 m

39、m/min. A.1.2 Procedure Assemble the test fixture between the jaws of the tensile testing machine, taking care to ensure that the tensile load will be transmitted in a straight line through the test rivet. Maintaining a free running speed within the specified range, apply a tensile load to the test f

40、ixture and increase the loading until failure of the rivet occurs. Record the maximum load applied (measured in N) as being the shear load of the rivet. NOTEIf hydraulic testing machines are used care should be taken to locate the fixture at the centre of the piston. A.2 Tensile test A.2.1 Apparatus

41、 A.2.1.1 Test fixture, comprising two alloy steel plates, of equal nominal thickness and hardened and tempered within the range 46 HRC to 50 HRC, and assembled by means of the test rivet, as shown in Figure A.2. The diameter of the test holes are as given in Table A.1. The test fixture shall be asse

42、mbled as follows. Install the rivet in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations using the tool supplied by the manufacturer. Ensure that the total thickness of the joint is not less than 1.0 times the nominal rivet diameter when testing protruding head rivets, or 1.5 times the rivet diamete

43、r when testing countersunk head rivets, nor greater than the maximum grip length of the test rivet concerned. For rivets which have a maximum grip length less than the minimum total joint thickness specified above, use the maximum grip length as the total joint thickness. A.2.1.2 Tensile testing mac

44、hine, capable of applying a compressive load and fitted with a cross head, the free running speed of which shall not be less than 7 mm/min nor greater than 13 mm/min. A.2.2 Procedure Assemble the test fixture between the compression heads of the tensile testing machine. Maintaining a free running sp

45、eed within the specified range, apply a load to the test fixture and increase the loading until failure of the rivet occurs, either when the rivet body fractures or the rivet is pulled through one of the plates. Record the maximum load applied (measured in N) as being the tensile load of the rivet.

46、NOTEIf hydraulic testing machines are used care should be taken to locate the fixture at the centre of the piston. A.3 Accuracy and repeatability of testing machines The relative accuracy of testing machines shall not exceed 3.0 %, and shall not exceed 3.0 % for repeatabiliy. Diameter in millimetres

48、The design of plates may be modified to add holes for shear testing two or more sizes of rivets using the same plates. Such holes should be located on the longitudinal centreline of the plate, and centre distances between adjacent holes should be at least four times the diameter of the larger hole.
