、sh Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Automobile Standards Committee. It specifies requirements for 24 V type N (normal) electrical connectors between towing vehicles and trailers and is based on ISO 1185:1975 “Road vehicles Electrical connections between towing vehicles and towed

、 vehicles with 24 V electrical equipment Type 24 N (normal)”, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Connectors manufactured in accordance with this standard are interchangeable with those made in accordance with ISO 1185, but the standards are not identical. This sta

、ndard differs from ISO 1185 in that there is an additional clause for mounting the socket and plug assembly, and that performance in accordance with BS 194 is specified. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsi

、ble for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, pages 1 to 4, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been

、updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. 12、 01-20001 1 Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for sockets and plugs of type 24 N which will permit electrical connections between towing vehicles and trailers with 24 V electrical equipment. NOTE 1These sockets and plugs are not interchangeable with type 24 S (supplementary) sockets

、 and plugs (see BS AU 198). NOTE 2The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 General 2.1 Number of contacts. There shall be seven contacts, designated as follows. e common return; f left-hand rear position and end-outline marker light, and rear

、 registration-plate illuminating device; g left-hand direction-indicator light; h stop lights; i right-hand direction-indicator light; j right-hand rear position and end-outline marker light, and rear registration-plate illuminating device; k braking control for trailers. The rear registration-plate

、 illuminating device shall be connected in such a manner that no lamp of such a device has a common connection with both contacts f and j. 2.2 Arrangement of contacts. The arrangement of contacts shall be as shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2. 2.3 Socket. The socket shall be mounted on the rear of the t

、owing vehicle in the case of a road train. It shall be mounted on the semi-trailer in the case of an articulated road train. The socket shall be provided with six contact pins (f to k) and one larger contact pin (e). All contacts shall be insulated. NOTEAfter fitting, contact e may be connected to t

、he common return of the vehicle. Each rear terminal shall be capable of receiving two conductors of 1.5 mm2 minimum cross section. The contact designations shall be permanently marked on the inside of the socket cover and on the terminal face in symbols not less than 2 mm high. NOTEThese symbols, wh

、ich need not be numbers, may differ from those indicated in Figure 1, provided that the specified pin locations of the different functions are complied with. The socket shall be provided with a splashproof cover which shall close automatically when the plug is disengaged. The hinged cover on the soc

All metallic parts of the socket shall be made of corrosion-resistant material or shall be protected against corrosion. 2.4 Plug. The plug shall be mounted on the trailer in the case of a road train and on the towing veh

、icle in the case of an articulated road train. The plug shall be provided with six spring tubes corresponding to pins f to k and one larger spring tube corresponding to pin e. The internal diameter of tubes f to k shall be such that the corresponding pins of the socket can be connected with a modera

、te push, but they shall ensure a good electrical contact. Each rear terminal shall be capable of receiving one conductor of 2.5 mm2 minimum cross section. The contact designations shall be permanently marked on the terminal face in symbols not less than 2 mm high. NOTEThese symbols, which need not b
