Terminology and conventions. The text of the International Standard has been approved as suitable fo

5、r publication as a British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards; attention is especially drawn to the following. Wherever the words “International Standard” appear, referring to this standard, they should be read

6、as “British Standard”. There is no British Standard corresponding to ISO 3833:1977 to which reference is made in clause 3. The Technical Committee has reviewed the provisions of that International Standard and has decided that they are acceptable for use in conjunction with this standard. A British

13、identification of the manufacturers of parts for road vehicles; this identifier may serve, at the manufacturers option, as a substitute or an addition for various national or international systems which already exist, such as name and address, trade mark, etc. The purpose of this International Stand

14、ard is not to prescribe the existence of a marking but to unify its structure when, for whatever reason, it is present. Nor is the purpose to identify each part but merely the manufacturer who has taken the responsibility for it. 2 Field of application This International Standard applies only to man

15、ufacturers of parts intended to be used on road vehicles as defined in ISO 3833. 3 References ISO 3780, Road vehicles World manufacturer identifier (WMI) code. 16、(WMI) code assignments1). 4 Definitions For the purpose of this International Standard, the following definitions apply: 4.1 parts manufacturer the person, firm or corporation who takes the responsibility for the part or assembly that requires source identification 4.2 world parts manufacturer ident

17、ifier (WPMI) the code assigned to a parts manufacturer which permits his identification in a univocal manner around the world for a period of minimum 30 years 5 General characteristics of the WPMI code 5.1 The WPMI code shall consists of four alphanumeric characters. Only the following arabic numera

18、ls and roman letters shall be used: (the letters I, O and Q shall not be used). 5.2 The assigned WPMI codes will be maintained and checked by the International Agency acting under authorization from ISO: SAE, Society of Automotive Engineers, Inc.; 400 Commonwealth Drive, Warrendale Pa. 15096 USA. 5.

19、3 One or more WPMI codes may be assigned to each parts manufacturer by the national organization of that country in which the manufacturer has its headquarters. 5.4 A WPMI code assigned to a parts manufacturer shall not be assigned to another manufacturer for at least 30 years after the last year in

20、 which the code was used. 6 Specific characteristics required for the characters in the WPMI code NOTESee examples in the annex. 6.1 First and second characters This block of two characters designates a country. 6.1.1 If one or two blocks of two characters have been assigned to a country by the Inte

21、rnational Agency, according to ISO 3780, those characters shall be used. 6.1.2 If no block of two characters has been assigned to it, the National Organization shall request it of the International Agency designated according to ISO 3780. 6.2 Third and fourth characters 6.2.1 Case where the parts ma

22、nufacturer is also a road vehicle manufacturer and owns a WMI code of three characters as defined in 6.4.1 of ISO 3780. In this case, the WPMI code assigned to the parts manufacturer shall be constituted by the three characters of the WMI code and a fourth character which shall be 0. 6.2.2 Case wher

25、al 9; the 4th character shall be fixed by the National Organization. 6.2.3 Case where the parts manufacturer is not a road vehicle manufacturer. In this case, the last two characters of the WPMI code shall be assigned by the National Organization, excluding the numeral 9 for the 3rd character and th

26、e numeral 0 for the 4th character. 7 Implementation of WPMI code assignments For implementation of WMI code assignments, an ISO guide is under preparation.
