21、 EN 1846-1:1998 BSI 1998 Introduction This part of the EN 1846 has been prepared in order to define a common designation system of firefighting and rescue service vehicles. It also identifies the main characteristics of any motor vehicle by a serial number and letter as defined in the following clau

22、ses which may be used in invitations to tender within Europe. 1 Scope This part of EN 1846 applies to firefighting and rescue service vehicles. It establishes classes and defines categories which are functions of the use and mass of the vehicles. A designation system gives the various criteria used

23、for characterizing the vehicles. 2 Normative references This European Standard incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. These normative references are cited at the appropriate places in the text and the publications are listed hereafter. For dated references, s

Other specific definitions exist in the other parts of

27、EN 1846. 3.1 motor vehicle any power-driven road vehicle which has four or more wheels, which is not rail borne, and which is normally used for: carrying persons and/or goods; towing vehicles used for the carriage of persons and/or goods; special service 3.1 of ISO 3833:1977 3.2 appliance covered mo

28、tor vehicle designed for carrying personnel and equipment 3.3 fire appliance appliance used for firefighting and/or rescue 3.4 demountable specially designed container that can be easily mounted on and removed from a suitable vehicle 3.5 trailer a non-power-driven road vehicle which, on account of i

29、ts design and appointments is used to transport persons or goods and is intended to be towed by a motor vehicle; semi-trailer is included in this category 3.2 of ISO 3833:1977 3.6 amphibious motor vehicle vehicle capable of moving on land and water 4 Motor vehicle mass classes All motor vehicles wit

31、Page 4 EN 1846-1:1998 BSI 1998 5 Motor vehicle categories All motor vehicles shall be classified according to one of the following three categories depending on their ability to negotiate varying ground conditions: category 1, urban: motor vehicle normally used on constructed road surfaces; category

32、 2, rural: motor vehicle capable of traversing all road and limited off road surfaces; category 3, all terrain: motor vehicle capable of traversing all road and cross-country. 6 Motor vehicle groups Depending on their main application, fire appliances shall be subdivided into the following groups: F

33、irefighting and rescue appliance: pumping appliance; appliance for specific fire. High rise aerial appliance: turntable ladder; hydraulic platform. rescue tender; fire service ambulance; damage control tender; command and control appliance; personnel carrying vehicle; support vehicle; other speciali

34、zed motor vehicle. The groups are defined below. 6.1 firefighting and rescue appliance 6.1.1 pumping appliance fire appliance equipped with a pump complying with the requirements of prEN 1028-1 and prEN 1028-2, and usually a water tank, and other equipment required for firefighting and rescue purpos

35、es 6.1.2 appliance for specific fire fire appliance with special equipment with or without special extinguishing media 6.2 high rise aerial appliance fire appliance incorporating a turntable ladder or hydraulic platform 6.2.1 turntable ladder extending structure which is in the form of a ladder with

36、 or without a cage. It is slewed on the base 6.2.2 hydraulic platform extending structure with a cage, composed of one or more rigid or telescopic, articulating or scissor mechanism or any combination of them in the form of booms and/or ladders. It may or may not slew on the base (in accordance with

37、 3.2 and 3.3 of prEN 1777:1994) 6.3 Rescue tender fire appliance equipped to undertake rescue operations, e.g.: location and rescue of people; accident recovery; forcing entry; animal rescue 6.4 fire service ambulance a motor vehicle meeting the requirements of prEN 1789 operated by fire service per

38、sonnel and designed for the care and transport of patients. It may also include other facilities for the specific use of the fire service 6.5 damage control tender fire appliance with equipment to protect property and to limit damage to the environment, e.g.: pollution hazard; chemical hazard; radio

39、logical hazard; biological hazard; salvage 6.6 command and control appliance fire appliance with communication and other equipment to command operations 6.7 personnel carrying vehicle fire appliance able to convey fire service personnel and their individual equipment 6.8 support vehicle fire applian

40、ce able to convey equipment or extinguishing media to reinforce an operationally engaged unit 6.9 other specialized motor vehicle fire appliance designed for special or specific task, e.g.: aircraft operation; operation on or under water; railway operation 7 Motor vehicle designation All motor vehic

41、les shall be designated by six specific characteristics depending upon the motor vehicle group in which they are contained (see Table 1 and examples 1 and 2).
