The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by Technical Committee EPL/86, Fibre optics, to Subcommittee EPL/86/2, Interc
4、onnecting devices and passive components, which has the responsibility to: aid enquirers to understand the text; present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests informed; monitor related international

23、rpose of this part of IEC 1300 is to determine the suitability of a fibre optic device to withstand the environmental condition of extended low temperature (cold) which may occur in actual use, storage and/or transport. The procedure does not permit the assessment of the ability of these devices to
24、withstand or operate during temperature variations; in this case, IEC 1300-2-22 would be used. 1.2 General description This procedure is conducted in accordance with IEC 68-2-1, test Ab. The specimen is placed in a chamber at ambient temperature. The temperature is then lowered to test temperature a
25、t a rate not to exceed 1 C/min averaged over a maximum period of 5 min, and maintained at that temperature for the specified duration, The chamber temperature is then raised to ambient and the specimen is allowed to attain ambient temperature before final measurements are made. 1.3 Normative referen
26、ces The following normative documents contains provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this part of IEC 1300. At the time of publication, the edition indicated were valid. All normative documents are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this part

The chamber shall be capable of housing
29、 the specimen and of allowing access for measurement during conditioning, if required. It shall also be capable of maintaining the specified temperature and tolerance. Forced air circulation may be used to maintain homogeneous conditions. Care shall be taken to ensure that the specimen is not direct
30、ly exposed to the heating or cooling elements. 2.2 Other apparatus Additional apparatus may be necessary to perform the measurements specified by the detail specification. 3 Procedure Conduct the procedure in accordance with IEC 68-2-1, test Ab. 3.1 Preconditioning If specified, precondition the spe
31、cimen as required by the detail specification. 3.2 Initial measurements If specified, take initial examinations and measurements as required by the detail specification. 3.3 Conditioning 3.3.1 Stabilize the chamber and the specimen to standard atmospheric conditions. Place the specimen in the chambe
32、r in its normal operating position including hook-ups to peripheral equipment (when required). 3.3.2 Adjust the chamber temperature to the specified severity. The. rate of change of temperature shall not exceed 1 C/min, averaged over a maximum period of 5 min. Allow the specimen to reach temperature
33、 stability and maintain the temperature for the duration specified. 3.3.3 At the completion of the test, allow the specimen to remain in the chamber while the temperature is gradually raised to standard atmospheric conditions. The rate of change of temperature shall not exceed 1 C/min, averaged over
34、 a maximum period of 5 minutes. The detail specification may call for measurements during conditioning. If required, the detail specification shall specify the measurements to be taken and when to take them. Do not remove the specimen(s) from the chamber when taking these measurements. 3.4 Recovery
35、Remove water droplets by shaking the specimen or by using a blast of air at laboratory temperatures for a short time. Allow the specimen to remain under standard atmospheric conditions for a period of greater than 1 h. The detail specification may call for measurements during recovery. If required,
36、the detail specification shall specify the measurements to be taken and when to take them. 3.5 Final measurements Take final measurements as required by the detail specification.
