8、lectrical appliances Part 2: Particular requirements for portable immersion heaters published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC). It is identical with IEC 335-2-74:1994, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and which has the same titl

9、e as the European Standard. This British Standard supersedes BS 3456-3.21:1981 which will be withdrawn on 1 January 1999 in accordance with the CENELEC Internal Regulations. Certification and marks will not be awarded after this date with respect to BS 3456-3.21:1981. However, such certificates and

10、marks, already awarded, may continue to apply for production until 1 January 2004. This British Standard is to be read in conjunction with BS EN 60335-1:1995 Specification for safety of household and similar electrical appliances Part 1: General requirements. The many references to Part 1 should be

11、read as references to BS EN 60335-1, which is the English language version of EN 60335-1:1994 which was derived from the second impression, 1993, of IEC publication 335-1 (third edition 1991). Amendments and revisions of Part 1 have also to be taken into account and the dates when such changes becom

12、e applicable will be stated in the relevant amendment or revision of Part 1. Product approval. Attention is drawn to the fact that products conforming to this British Standard may be approved by the British Electrotechnical Approvals Board for the purposes of participation in the CENELEC Certificati

13、on Agreement and in the CB Scheme of the IECEE. (Details of the BEAB Approval Scheme are given on the inside back cover.) 23、C 335-2-74:1994, document CLC/TC 61(SEC)969, was circulated under the enquiry procedure in July 1994. This proposal was discussed during the Dublin meeting in May 1995, when it was decided to submit a draft for EN 60335-2-74 to the formal vote. This draft was circulated in January 1996 and was ratif

24、ied by CENELEC as EN 60335-2-74 on 1996-07-02. This European Standard has been prepared by the secretariat of CENELEC Technical Committee TC 61. The following dates are applicable: For products which have complied with HD 262 S1:1977 + HD 262.2 S1:1978 + HD 262.3 S1:1989 + HD 262.4 S1:1990 before 19

25、99-01-01, as shown by the manufacturer or by a certification body, this previous standard may continue to apply for production until 2004-01-01. This standard has to be used in conjunction with EN 60335-1, Safety of household and similar electrical appliances, Part 1: General requirements. It was es

26、tablished on the basis of the 1994 edition of that standard. Amendments and revisions of Part 1 have also to be taken into account and the dates when such changes become applicable will be stated in the relevant amendment or revision of Part 1. This Part 2 supplements or modifies the corresponding c

27、lauses of EN 60335-1, so as to convert it into the European Standard: Safety requirements for electric portable immersion heaters. Where a particular subclause of Part 1 is not mentioned in this Part 2, that subclause applies as far as is reasonable. Where this standard states “addition”, “modificat

28、ion” or “replacement”, the relevant text of Part 1 is to be adapted accordingly. Subclauses which are additional to those in Part 1 are numbered starting with 101. There are no special national conditions causing a deviation from this European Standard, other than those listed in annex ZA to EN 6033

36、 heaters for household and similar purposes, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V. Appliances not intended for normal household use but which nevertheless may be a source of danger to the public, such as appliances intended to be used by laymen in shops, in light industry and on farms, are

37、within the scope of this standard. So far as is practicable, this standard deals with the common hazards presented by appliances which are encountered by all persons in and around the home. This standard does not in general take into account the use of appliances by young children or infirm persons

38、without supervision; playing with the appliance by young children. NOTE 1Attention is drawn to the fact that: for appliances intended to be used in vehicles or on board ships or aircraft, additional requirements may be necessary; for appliances intended to be used in tropical countries special requi

39、rements may be necessary; in many countries additional requirements are specified by the national health authorities, the national authorities responsible for the protection of labour, the national water supply authorities and similar authorities. NOTE 2This standard does not apply to: appliances in

40、tended exclusively for industrial purposes; appliances intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, such as the presence of a corrosive or explosive atmosphere (dust, vapour or gas); aquarium heaters (IEC 335-2-55); fixed immersion heaters (IEC 335-2-73); heating elements incor

41、porated in portable appliances such as appliances for heating liquids (IEC 335-2-15). 2 Definitions This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows: 2.2.9 Replacement: normal operation immersion heaters are placed in a vessel which is filled with a quantity of cold water sufficient to immerse

42、the appliance to the minimum depth of immersion 3 General requirement This clause of part 1 is applicable. 4 General conditions for the tests This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows: 4.3 Addition: The additional test of clause 21 is made before the test of clause 8. 5 Void 6 Classifica

43、tion This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows: 6.2 Addition: Immersion heaters shall be at least IPX7. 7 Marking and instructions This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows: 7.1 Addition: Immersion heaters shall be marked with the maximum and minimum depths of immersion. NOTE

44、 1The depths of immersion may be indicated by lines only, provided the meaning of these lines is given in the instructions for use. NOTE 2The marking is not required on appliances intended to float. 7.12 Addition: The instructions for use shall give details of suitable vessels to be used with the im

45、mersion heater. They shall include the substance of the following: the immersion heater is to be unplugged before removing it from the liquid; the heating element will remain hot after unplugging and it should not be touched or placed on combustible surfaces. 8 Protection against access to live part

46、s This clause of part 1 is applicable. 9 Starting of motor-operated appliances This clause of part 1 is not applicable. 10 Power input and current This clause of part 1 is applicable. 11 Heating This clause of part 1 is applicable except as follows: 11.7 Addition: Immersion heaters are operated for

47、15 min after the water temperature has reached 95 C. However, if this temperature cannot be attained, the immersion heater is operated for 15 min after the water temperature has stabilized or for 15 min after a thermal control has operated.
