、efinitions For the purposes of this document, the definitions given in IEC 61196-1 and the following apply. 3.1 radiating (coaxial) cables coaxial communication cables with outer conductors that are intentionally not completely closed, so that part of the energy transmitted or received through the c

、able is coupled by the transmission system formed by the outer conductor of the cable and the external environment NOTE Radiating cables can be used to create radio links between fixed stations connected to one end of the radiating cable and mobile stations which are within the transmitting/receivin

、g range of the cable. They are preferred for use in tunnels or other installations in which conventional radio transmission is not satisfactory or even impossible. 4 Preferred ratings and characteristics 4.1 Classes Radiating cables may be classed according to Iongitudinal loss; coupling loss; perfo

、rmance in fire. 4.2 Characteristic impedance The preferred characteristic impedance of the radiating cables covered by this specification is 50 or 75 . 5 Marking The cable shall be permanently marked along its length. 6 Test and measurement procedures and conditions This clause gives test procedures

、 and conditions generally used for radiating cables. Further requirements shall be given in the relevant detail specification. 6.1 Standard atmospheric conditions of testing Unless stated otherwise, the tests in IEC 60068 shall apply. 6.2 Methods of measurement 6.2.1 Electrical Withstand voltage of

Requirements: attenuation constant versus frequency; coupling loss versus frequency (ac50, ac95) type of fire test. 8 Packaging Packaging requirements shall be left to the discretion of the manufacturer of the r

、adio- frequency cable unless specific packaging requirements are incorporated in the contract or purchase order. _ 1) To prevent the influence on the test result of intercoupling between layers and windings on a drum, it may be necessary to measure this characteristic on an uncoiled piece of cable (

、preferably as specified in Annexes A and B). 2) As they depend on the environmental conditions, coupling loss and longitudinal loss shall be measured with the same arrangement, either ground level method or free space method. 39、13 04:19:23 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI Annex A (normative) Attenuation constant A.1 Procedure Measurements can be carried out by one of the two methods: ground-level method; free-space method. A.1.1 Ground-level method The arrangement of the cable is given in Figure A.1. The cable is

、 laid on non-metallic spacers which gives the cable a distance from the concrete floor of 10 cm to 12 cm. The cable must be at least of the length 10 , where is the cable wavelength of the measuring frequency. A.1.2 Free-space method The arrangement of the cable is given in Figure A.2. The cable is

、laid on non-metallic posts at a height of 1,5 m to 2 m. The cable must be at least of the length 10 , where is the cable wavelength of the measuring frequency. A.2 Measurement (see Figures A.1 and A.2) Adjust the generator frequency and record the output power level with a spectrum analyser, a netwo

、rk analyser or equivalent. If the source is built into the measurement device, a cable of known attenuation can be used to connect the far end of the cable. Feed the signal to port A of the cable and record the power level at port B. The nominal characteristic impedance of the cable shall be matched

、 to the nominal impedance of the test set-up. A.3 Evaluation Compute attenuation as 100 se L NN = (A.1) where Ne is the power level at cable input (dBm); Ns is the power level at cable end (dBm); Page 7 EN 611964:2004 Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Mon Nov 13 04:19:23 GMT+00:00 2006, Un
