In 1993 the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) accepted IEC 1023:1990 as European Standard EN 61023:1993. As a consequence of implementing the European Standard this British

9、 Standard is renumbered as BS EN 61023 and any reference to BS 7408 should be read as a reference to BS EN 61023. The Technical Committee has reviewed the provisions of ISO 8728:1987, to which reference is made in the text, and has decided that they are acceptable for use in conjunction with this st

25、ed and Distance Measuring Equipment (SDME) required by Regulation 12 of Chapter V of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, (SOLAS), 1974, as amended, and which is associated with: marine radar complying with IEC 936; marine gyro-compasses complying with ISO 8728; marine Automat

26、ic Radar Plotting Aids (ARPA) complying with IEC 872; general requirements for marine navigational equipment, complying with IEC 945. 2 Object To establish minimum performance standards and methods of testing and required test results for SDME. 3 Layout This standard is made up of two sections. Sect

27、ion 1 consists of the performance standards and is based upon the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Resolution A.478 (XII). The clause numbering of that Resolution is indicated in parentheses and all clauses whose meanings are identical to those in the Resolution are in italics. Section 2 co

28、nsists of the methods of testing and required test results. Section 1. Operational and performance requirements 4 General 4.1 (1.1) Speed and distance measuring equipment (SDME) shall provide information on the distance run and the forward speed of a ship, through the water (Vw) or over the ground (

29、Vg) or both (see Figure 1 for definitions of Vw and Vg). The equipment shall function at forward speeds up to the maximum speed of the ship and in water of depth greater than 3 m beneath the keel. 4.2 In addition to the requirements of 4.2.1 and 4.2.2 below, the SDME shall comply with the minimum re

30、quirements of clause 6 below and the IEC 945. The tests to be carried out in order to assess whether an equipment complies with the stated performance requirements and the test results required for compliance are specified in Section 2. 4.2.1 Where SDME information is generated by one unit of equipm

31、ent and is displayed on another unit, the combination of the two units shall be regarded as forming the SDME and shall be tested as an entity. 4.2.2 Any facility provided by the equipment which is additional to the minimum requirements of this specification shall be tested to ensure that its operati

32、on (and, as far as is reasonably practicable, its malfunction) does not degrade the performance of the equipment. 5 Letter symbols 5.1 Explanation of letter symbols used in this standard is given in Figure 1. 6 Performance requirements 6.1 The system shall consist of a sensor and the necessary proce

33、ssing unit to convert the output signal of the sensor to speed and distance for display and for transmission to other equipment. 6.2 (2.1) Speed information may be presented in either analog or digital form or both. Where a digital display is used, its incremental steps shall not exceed 0.1 knots. A

34、nalog displays shall be graduated at least every 0.5 knots and be marked with figures at least every 5 knots. If the display can present the speed of the ship in both forward and reverse directions, the direction of movement shall be indicated unambiguously. 6.3 (2.2) Distance run information shall

35、be presented in digital form. The display shall cover the range from 0 to not less than 9999.9 nautical miles and the incremental steps shall not exceed 0.1 nautical miles. Where practicable, means shall be provided for resetting a read-out to zero. 6.4 (2.3) The display shall be easily readable by

36、day and by night. 6.5 (2.4) Means shall be provided for feeding distance-run information to other equipment fitted on board. The information shall be in the form of one contact closure or the equivalent for every 0.005 nautical miles run. The minimum contact closure time or equivalent pulse width sh

37、all be 50 ms. (The means of transmitting information to other equipment is under consideration.) 6.6 (2.5) If equipment is capable of being operated in either the “speed through the water” or “speed over the ground” modes, mode selection and mode indication shall be provided. Where automatic mode se

38、lection is provided, the mode in use shall be indicated. 39、rom shallow water effect(s), and from the effects of wind, current and tide shall not exceed 5 % of the speed of the ship, or 0.5 knots, whichever is the greater. 6.7.2 (3.2) Errors in the indicated distance run, when the ship is operating free from shallow water effect(s), and from the effects of w

40、ind, current and tide shall not exceed 5 % of the distance run by the ship in 1 h or 0.5 nautical miles in each hour, whichever is the greater. 6.7.3 (3.3) If the accuracy of devices to indicate speed and distance run can be affected by certain conditions (e.g., sea state and its effects, water temp

41、erature, salinity, sound velocity in water, the depth of water under the keel, heel, trim and draught of ship) details of possible effects shall be included in the equipment handbook. 6.8 (4) Roll and pitch 6.8.1 (4) The performance of the equipment shall be such that it will meet the requirements o

42、f this standard when the ship is rolling up to plus or minus 10 degrees and pitching up to plus or minus 5 degrees. 6.8.2 A statement regarding any degradation of performance at roll and pitch angles greater than those quoted in 6.8.1 shall be included in the equipment handbook. 6.9 (5) Construction

43、 and installation 6.9.1 (5.1) The system shall be so designed that neither the method of attachment of parts of the equipment to the ship nor damage occurring to any part of the equipment which penetrates the hull could result in the ingress of water to the ship. 6.9.2 (5.2) Where any part of the sy

44、stem is designed to extend from and retract into the hull of the ship, the design shall ensure that it can be extended, operated normally and retracted at all speeds up to the maximum speed of the ship. Its extended and retracted positions shall be clearly indicated at the display position. Explanat

The figure can be applied to any point of a ship, all vectors being equal and constant in time, as long as no parameter influencing the movemen

46、t (own ships course and speed, wind and current) changes. During, for example, a course change, the vectors for various sensor locations are different and vary with time. In this case, the output of the SDME depends upon the location of the sensors. 6.9.3 The handbook shall include the manufacturers

47、 recommendations on the installation of the SDME, in particular the positioning of the sensor, as it affects the overall accuracy of the SDME. Section 2. Methods of testing and required test results 7 General 7.1 Tests shall be carried out at test sites nominated by the Testing Authority. The manufa

48、cturer shall, unless otherwise agreed, set up the equipment and ensure that it is operating normally before testing commences. 7.2 The general arrangements for the tests shall be as follows: 7.2.1 Where applicable, the units of the equipment shall be inter-connected by the longest electrical links f

49、or which the equipment has been designed. A link may be real or simulated. 7.2.2 For tests to determine speed and distance measurement accuracy, the signals normally received from the sensor shall be simulated as applicable to the particular type of device being tested. Where practicable, the output of the sensor shall be measured to determine the characteristics of its output signal. 7.2.3 Where realistic simulation is not practicable, the manufacturer shall demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the Testing Authority, that the equi
