、3-20005 Introduction This part of IEC 61069 deals with the method which should be used to assess the non-task-related properties of industrial process measurement and control systems. Assessment of a system is the judgement, based on evidence, of the suitability of the system for a specific mission

、or class of missions. To obtain total evidence would require complete (i.e. under all influencing conditions) evaluation of all system properties relevant to the specific mission or class of missions. Since this is rarely practical, the rationale on which an assessment of a system should be based is

、 to identify the criticality of each of the relevant system properties; to plan for evaluation of the relevant system properties with a cost-effective dedication of effort to the various properties. In conducting an assessment of a system, it is crucial to bear in mind the need to gain a maximum inc

、rease in confidence in the suitability of a system within practical cost and time constraints. An assessment can only be carried out if a mission has been stated (or given), or if any mission, can be hypothesized. In the absence of a mission, no assessment can be made; however, evaluations (as defin

、ed in IEC 61069-1) can still be specified and be carried out for use in assessments performed by others. In such cases, the standard can be used as a guide for planning an evaluation and it provides procedures for performing evaluations, since evaluations are an integral part of assessment. Figure 1

、systems. The assessment methodology detailed in IEC 61069-2 is applied to obtain the assessment programme of the non-task-related properties. Each of the properties is analysed, and the criteria to be taken into account when assessing non-task-related properties are described. References are made to

、on of a qualitative or quantitative value to that system property 3.3 mission (of a system) collective activity assigned to the system to achieve a defined goal in a defined period under defined conditions 4 Non-task-related properties 4.1 General Under the title “non-task-related properties” are gr

、ouped those properties which are not directly related to any task or function and are not addressed in IEC 61069-3 to IEC 61069-7. Nevertheless, this group of properties is of importance for the effective use of a system to accomplish its mission, during the installation, operational, decommissionin

、g and disposal phases of its life cycle. Guidance on total project management is given in ISO 10303-208. The system requirements document should therefore carefully specify the requirements of the non-task-related properties, such as the operational policy followed during all the phases of the syste

、m mission; the general context in which the system is required to operate; the profile of the operational personnel i.e. skill, know-how; the environmental aspects during each of the phases; etc. The system specification document should give details on the non-task-related aspects of the system proposed, such as the policy followed to guarantee the quality of the system; the system support; compatibility level with other systems; etc., and should also state the gen
