、rements of the standard they should at the same time ensure compliance with such statutory requirements, rules and regulations as may be applicable to the individual ship concerned. 1 Scope 1.1 This British Standard specifies a range of sea tubes for shipside outlets. The standard specifies material

、s and dimensions, methods and quality of manufacture, and gives details of the inspection and tests to be performed on the finished components. 1.2 Appendix A gives details of the application and shipboard installation of sea tubes and includes guidance information to ensure that the components func

、tion in the most effective manner. 2 Nominal sizes Sea tubes shall be designated by their nominal size which shall correspond to the nominal size of the valves with which they are to mate. General purpose sea tubes 25, 32, 40, 50, 65, 80, 100, 125, 150, 200, 250, 300, 350, 400, 450, 500 mm. Blow-dow

、n sea tubes 15, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50 mm. 3 Materials 3.1 The materials used for manufacture shall be in accordance with the requirements given in Table 1. 3.2 Other materials may be used provided they are at least as suitable for the intended duty and are equally acceptable to the regulatory bodies. 4

、 Method and quality of manufacture 4.1 The sea tubes shall be fabricated by welding from two components, the tube and the flange, see Figure 1 and Figure 2 for details of general purpose sea tubes and Figure 3 for details of blow-down sea tubes. 4.2 The tube shall be produced in accordance with the

、following methods. 1) Cut from thick wall tube. See Figure 1. 2) Formed from plate and longitudinally welded. See Figure 2. 3) Bored-out solid bar. See Figure 3. 4.3 The mating dimensions of flanges for general purpose tubes shall comply with BS 4504, NP10 rating and for blow-down tubes to BS 4504 o

、r BS 1560-2, the rating for the latter application depending on plant operating conditions. In all cases the flanges shall have flat jointing faces. The final thickness of the flanges shall be in accordance with details given in Figure 1,

、Figure 2 and Figure 3. 4.5 When bolts are specified, the backs of flanges shall be spot faced or machined in cases where the parallelism of the back of the flange to the joint face exceeds 1. 4.6 The metal end of studs, where used, shall have a depth of insertion equal to the nominal diameter of the

、 thread. The thread of the tapped holes shall be to the standard limits of the tolerance 4H (close fit) as specified in BS 3643-2. 5 Tests and inspection Sea tubes of greater than 150 mm nominal size shall have all welds crack detected by the dye penetrant method. Sea tubes of nominal size of 150 mm

、 and below to have the welds visually inspected for faults. 24、a position that their discharge does not interfere with the operation of lifeboats and accommodation ladders. It is recommended that general purpose sea tubes are located above the light load line and blow-down sea tubes below the light load line. Sea tubes, where their length exceeds 2D, are to be

、securely bracketed to the ships structure (see Figure 4). Care is to be taken to ensure that the ends of brackets do not terminate on areas of unstiffened plate. For sea tubes of 200 mm and greater nominal size, the ends of brackets shall terminate on the main frame. Sea tubes are to be welded throu

、gh the ships shell as shown in Figure 4. When sea tubes are used as stub fittings on sea water inlet boxes, the overall length of the tube should not exceed the outside diameter D of the tube. Sea tubes are to be protected internally by the application of an approved anti-corrosion coating after fin
