、5100:2000(E) iii Foreword ISO (the International Organization for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical com- mittees. Each member body interested in a su

、bject for which a technical committee has been established has the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liai- son with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission

、 (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 3. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an Int

、ernational Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote. Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this International Standard may be the subject of patent rights. ISO shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rig

、 for determining the bulk density of dry, uncompacted chopped strands of glass fibre which are commonly used for the reinforcement of thermoplastic resins. This test may be used for product control or for quality control. This test method is not recommended for use when the chopped glass-fibre stran

、ds are wet, exceed a length of or do not exhibit a reasonable ease of flow when transferred from one container to another. NOTEThis test measures the free-flowing bulk density. The bulk density of compacted material will be different than that meas- ured by this test. 2Normative reference The follow

For dated references, subsequent amendments to, or revisions of, any of these publica- tions do not apply. However, parties to agreements based on this Internationa

For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies. Members of ISO and IEC maintain reg- isters of currently valid Internati

、g the container volume To determine the chopped-strand bulk density by this test method, the volume of the container used to weigh the strands must be known to a high degree of accuracy. The volume of the container can be found by determining the mass of water needed to fill it, then converting this

、 mass into the container volume, applying a temperature correc- tion. When a glass vessel containsgrams of water at a temperature, the volume of the container is given by the equation: where is the container volume; is the water temperature correction factor; is the mass of water in the container in

、 grams. To determine the volume of the container: 1)dry the container, if necessary; 2)weigh the dry container to the nearest(tare); 3)condition to equilibrium at one of the standard temperatures defined in ISO 291 (or) a sufficient amount of water to perform the following steps; 4)fill the containe

、r with conditioned water to the very top; 5)weigh the container plus water; 6)subtract the mass of the dry container from the mass of the container plus water; 7)select the conversion factor(for water atorfor water at); 8)multiply the mass of the water from step 6) by the conversion factor from step

、 7) to obtain the container vol- ume; 9)mark the container volume on the container for future reference.
