、 observing the requirements of the standard they should, at the same time, ensure compliance with such statutory requirements, rules and regulations as may be applicable to the individual ship concerned. 1 Scope 1.1 This British Standard relates to mild steel eyeplates with worked or forged oval eye

、s for use with “Dee” shackles, where the shackle is to be reeved (i.e. slotted or hooked) through the eyeplate. 1.2 The standard provides a specification for a range of nominal sizes of eyeplates, viz, from 1.0 to 20.0, which are suitable for use with metric sizes of steel shackles. 1.3 The eyeplate

、s have been designed to withstand the stated safe working load (S.W.L.) when applied at any angle to the eyeplate. 2 Types and dimensions 2.1 Eyeplates constructed in accordance with the requirements of this British Standard shall be of the form shown in Figure 1, and are as follows: Type A suitable

、 for installation on decks, bulwarks, etc. Type B suitable for installation on derricks. 2.2 The dimensions of the eyeplates shall be as set out in Table 2, and the permissible variation in the finished eyeplates from the dimensions shown shall be within the following limits of tolerance: 1) externa

、l dimensions, from 0 % to + 5 %, 2) internal dimensions, from 5 % to 0 %. 2.3 The nominal size of the eyeplate shall be as shown in the first column of Table 2. 3 Material 3.1 The eyeplate shall be made from weldable steel plate conforming to the requirements of BS 4360, Grade 40A. Alternatively, sh

、ip quality steel plate may be used, provided that it has equivalent weldable and mechanical properties. 3.2 When requested by the purchaser, the manufacturer shall furnish proof that the material used in the eyeplate conforms to the requirements of 3.1. 4 Heat treatment After completion of forging,

、the eyeplate shall be normalized by uniformly heating in a furnace until the whole of the metal has attained a temperature of between 880 C and 910 C. The eyeplate shall be maintained at this temperature for a period of 30 min for each 25 mm of thickness (dimension d of Figure 1) and other thickness

、es in proportion. At the end of this period the eyeplate shall be withdrawn from the furnace and allowed to cool in still air. 5 Testing of material The purchaser may select samples for analysis and mechanical test, of the steel from which the eyeplates are to be made or of the finished eyeplates, b

、ut the cost of the preparation and carrying out of such tests, including the cost of the material destroyed, shall be borne by the purchaser. Further, the purchaser shall have clearly stipulated in his enquiry or order that such tests are to be carried out. 6 Quality of manufacture and inspection 6.

、1 The eyeplate shall be formed from a shaped “blank” obtained by a gas-cutting process. The eyeplate shall subsequently be forged or machined in order to produce the section shapes shown in Figure 1. Care shall be taken to ensure that a smooth transition is made between these sections. 6.2 The surfa

、ce of the finished eyeplate shall be free from visible cracks and flaking. 6.3 The representative of the purchaser shall have access to the works of the manufacturer at all reasonable times in order to inspect the eyeplates at any stage of manufacture, including any testing machines and methods of e

、xamination adopted. He shall have the right to reject any eyeplates which do not conform to the requirements of this standard. 7 Marking 7.1 Each eyeplate shall be permanently and legibly marked with the number of this British Standard and with the nominal size of the eyeplate as given in the first
