10、leats manufactured from black steel bar which are required primarily for belaying ropes, of natural or synthetic fibre, used in guy tackle for ships cargo handling equipment. The range of sizes has been chosen to cover the use of light signal halyards or for securing signal lights or for similar pur

11、poses. The standard specifies dimensions and materials for horncleats having nominal sizes of 12, 20, 30 and 35 mm. A recommended maximum size of rope for use in conjunction with each size of horncleat is also given. The dimensions adopted for the horncleat are in close agreement with a correspondin

12、g CEN Document for Inland waterways craft, and DNA Standard DIN 81921. 2 Dimensions and sizes 2.1 General. The horncleats manufactured in accordance with the requirements of this British Standard shall be of the form illustrated in Figure 1, and have the dimensions set out in Table 2, within normal

13、manufacturing tolerances. NOTEThe welding symbols used in Figure 1 are in accordance with BS 499-2, but the associated dimensions are expressed in terms of the weld throat thickness and not leg length. 2.2 Nominal size. The nominal size of horncleat shall be denoted by the diameter of the horn, i.e.

14、 dimension d of Figure 1. These sizes are in agreement with the dimensions in Table 1 of BS 4229-2. 2.3 Maximum size of rope. The maximum size of rope to be used in conjunction with each horncleat should not normally exceed that given in the last column of Table 2. 3 Material The horncleat shall be

15、manufactured from round section black steel bar conforming to the requirements of BS 4360, Grade 40A. Other steels may be used provided that they are at least as suitable in all respects for the intended duty and are equally acceptable to the purchaser. 4 Quality of manufacture The surface of the ho

16、rncleat, including the base weld, shall be free from any visible cracks or flaking and from any roughness likely to cause damage to ropes by abrasion when in use. 5 Installation The horncleat should be positioned, wherever practical considerations allow, to align with the lead of that rope with whic

17、h it is intended to be most frequently used. 6 Marking 6.1 Each horncleat shall be permanently and legibly marked in the position indicated in Figure 1, with the number of this British Standard and with the nominal size of the horncleat as given in the first column of Table 2.
