Such ladders may be used in interior and exterior locations and are normally provided with a hand rail or rails for safety purposes. The

13、hand rail does not form part of this standard. 2 Definitions The following definitions shall apply: 2.1 ladder a construction, consisting of two stringers connected by treads to permit movement of personnel from one level to another 2.2 stringers the side members of a ladder to which the treads are

14、attached 2.3 treads horizontal members of a ladder 3 Materials The stringers and treads of the ladder shall be manufactured from weldable quality carbon steel conforming to the requirements of BS 4360, Grade 43A. Other steels may be used provided that they have equivalent weldable and mechanical pro

When open steel flooring treads are used they shall also conform to the requirements of BS 4360 Grade 43A. 4 Design and construction 4.1 Ladders Ladders shall be constructed in accordance with Figure 1 and Figure 2. 4.2 Stringers 4.2.1 The stringers shall be straight and parallel throughout

The distance between stringers shall be 600 mm, 700 mm or 800 mm. 4.2.2 Pairs of stringers shall be identical, differences in deck camber or sheer being accommodated by the method of attachment, for example, by increasing the

17、 height of the outboard deck lug in way of camber. 4.3 Treads 4.3.1 Treads shall be formed from either steel plate or, when specified, of open steel flooring pattern, and shall be 600 mm, 700 mm or 800 mm in length as appropriate. 4.3.1.1 Plate treads shall be of the form and dimensions shown in Fig

20、ng of the other steps. 4.3.5 Plate treads (see 4.3.1.1) shall be connected to the stringers by continuous fillet weld as shown in Figure 2. The welding symbols used in Figure 2 are in accordance with BS 499-2, but the associated dimensions are expressed in terms of the weld throat thickness and not

21、leg length. 4.3.6 The welding of the treads shall be properly carried out by an experienced operator, in accordance with BS 1856. 4.3.7 The welded treads shall be capable of withstanding a load of 900 N at the centre of the span and the maximum deflection of the tread when subjected to this load sha

22、ll not exceed 1 mm. 4.4 Installation 4.4.1 Ladders may be bolted or welded to the supporting structure as required. 4.4.2 The minimum distance between stringers and supporting structure shall be 10 mm. 5 Quality of manufacture and finish 5.1 Ladders shall be straight with a minimum of distortion. 5.

23、2 Ladders shall be free from defects and imperfections (burrs, weld-scar, sharp edges, etc.) liable to cause injury to persons using the ladders.
