、ayer System Management/Generic CAL Element Interface Service Specification. This section details the services provided to and by the Layer System Management by and to the Generic CAL Element. These services provide for administration of the Generic CAL Element by the Layer System Management through

、the following processes: Resetting the Generic CAL Element to a known state. Reading parameter values from the Generic CAL Element; setting parameter values in the Generic CAL Element; and notifying the Layer System Management of changes in Generic CAL Element parameters. 2.2.1 Overview of Primitive

、s. The following primitives provide the services between the Layer System Management and the Generic CAL Element. The G_CAL_INITIALIZE_PROTOCOL.request primitive is invoked by the Layer System Management to reset the Generic CAL E

、lement to a known state. Upon receipt, the CAL Element goes to the power-on state (IDLE). The Generic CAL Element immediately responds with an G_CAL_INITIALIZE_PROTOCOL.confirm primitive to indicate the results of the request. 2.2.2.1.2 Semantics. The semantics for this service primitive are as foll

The G_CAL_INITIALIZE_PROTOCOL.confirm primitive is invoked by the Generic CAL Element in response to an G_CAL_INITIALIZE_PROTOCOL.request to in

、dicate the success or failure of the initialization. 2.2.2.2.2 Semantics. The semantics for this service primitive are as follows: G_CAL_INITIALIZE_PROTOCOL.confirm ( Success ) Success is a Boolean parameter that when True indicates successful initialization to the IDLE state, and when False indicat

、es failure to reach the IDLE state. Failure to return this primitive will be interpreted by Layer System Management as a failure to initialize. 22 Copyright Consumer Electronics Association Provided by IHS under license with CEA Licensee=IHS Employees/1111111001, User=Wing, Bernie Not for Resale, 03

The G_CAL_SET_VALUE.request primitive is used by the Layer System Management to set the value of Generic CAL E

、lement variables. Among these variables are Quality-of-Service (QOS) parameters, described in EIA-721.4. They provide information to Generic CAL about lower layer service options. This is called a Discovery Process for determining lower layer parameters dynamically during configuration. Standard EIA

、-721.4 defines the variables and values for the QOS parameters. A Discovery Process for QOS parameters allows an implementation of Generic CAL to adjust parameters in the various Generic CAL primitives to the requirements of the lower layers. A dynamically configurable Generic CAL would facilitate d

、evelopment of modules or integrated circuits for Generic CAL that are independent of the Generic Network. If dynamic configuration is not needed, the Discovery Process may be omitted. Instead, the adaptation of Generic CAL to a particular Generic Network would be permanently included in the communic

The semantics for this service primitive are as follows: G_CAL_SET_VALUE.request ( Variable, Value, . . . ) Variable is the Generic CAL Element variable name to be set to the value contained in the parameter, Value. Variables that can be set with this primitive

、are for future study. 2.2.2.4 G_CAL_SET_VALUE.confirm 2.2.2.4.1 Purpose. The G_CAL_SET_VALUE.confirm primitive is generated in response to a G_CAL_SET_VALUE.request primitive to indicate the results of the request. 2.2.2.4.2 Semantics. 26、icense from IHS -,-,- CEA-721.3 Node Application Layer Specification Success is a Boolean parameter that when True indicates Variable was set to the requested Value parameter. When Success is False, the Variable could not be set to the requested Value. There should be a Success, Variable pair in the

、 confirmation primitive for each Variable, Value pair in the associated request. 2.2.2.5 G_CAL_READ_VALUE.request 2.2.2.5.1 Purpose. The G_CAL_READ_VALUE.request primitive is passed to the Generic CAL Element to read the value of a Generic CAL Element variable. The value of the requested variable is

、 returned in an associated G_CAL_READ_VALUE.confirm primitive. 2.2.2.5.2 Semantics. The semantics for this service primitive are as follows: G_CAL_READ_VALUE.request ( Variable ) The parameter, Variable, contains the name of the Generic CAL Element variable to be read. Variables that can be read wit

、h this primitive are for future study. 2.2.2.6 G_CAL_READ_VALUE.confirm 2.2.2.6.1 Purpose. The G_CAL_READ_VALUE.confirm primitive is invoked in response to an G_CAL_READ_VALUE.request and is used to return the value of the requested Generic CAL Element variable to the Layer System Management. 2.2.2.

、6.2 Semantics. The semantics for this service primitive are as follows: G_CAL_READ_VALUE.confirm ( Value, Success ) Value is the current value of the requested Generic CAL Element variable, if Success is True. If Success is False, Value is undefined. Success is a Boolean parameter. 2.2.2.7 G_CAL_EVE

、 values are currently specified for the parameter “Event“. 2.2.2.8 LSM_EVENT.indication 2.2.2.8.1 Purpose. The LSM_EVENT.indication service primitive is used to notify the Generic CAL Element that a significant event has occurred either in the Layer System Management or in another layer. 2.2.2.8.2 S

、emantics. The semantics for this service primitive are as follows: LSM_EVENT.indication ( Event ) The parameter “Event“ may take on one of the following values The error messages marked with an asterisk (*) are specified in the EIA-600 protocol. They are included as examples that may be applicable w

、ith other Generic Networks. Additional Event parameters may be included that are specific to the lower layer functions. MEDIUM_FAILURE* MEDIUM_RESET* PH_FAILURE* PH_RESET* MAC_FAILURE* MAC_RESET* LLC_FAILURE* LLC_RESET* NL_FAILURE* NL_RESET* MT_FAILURE MT_RESET In the EIA-600 protocol, a value of ME

、DIUM_FAILURE indicates that the physical medium is not operational, and that state transitions may not be placed on the medium. (Note that the Physical Layer may still be logically functional.) When this event occurs, any pending request from the User Element is discarded, and a confirm service prim

、itive is sent to the User Element with the Result parameter set to FAILURE_OTHER. Any pending indication is passed up to the User Element. The CAL Element then enters its RESET_WAIT State (OFF state). Because the CAL Element is notified of the physical medium failure, it also completes any pending p

、rocessing, refrains from generating any new “request“ service primitives to lower layers, and enters its RESET_WAIT State until notified by the Layer System Management that the medium is again operational. When an LSM_EVENT.indication primitive is received with the Event parameter set to MEDIUM_RESE

、T, the CAL Element enters its IDLE State and resumes normal functioning. 40、working permitted without license from IHS -,-,- CEA-721.3 Node Application Layer Specification A value of PH_FAILURE indicates that the Physical Layer is not functional for some reason and is currently attempting reset. A Physical Layer failure causes the CAL Element to behave in the same manner as

、 described above for a medium failure. When an LSM_EVENT.indication primitive is received with the Event parameter set to PH_RESET, the CAL Element enters its IDLE State and resumes normal functioning. A value of MAC_FAILURE indicates that the MAC Sublayer is not functional for some reason and is cu

、rrently attempting reset. When this occurs, the CAL Element operates as described for MEDIUM_FAILURE. The LLC Sublayer and the higher layers enter their respective RESET_WAIT States. When an LSM_EVENT.indication primitive is received with the Event parameter set to MAC_RESET, the CAL Element enters

、its IDLE State and resumes normal functioning. A value of LLC_FAILURE notifies the CAL Element that the LLC Sublayer is not functional and is attempting reset. When this occurs, the CAL Element operates as described for MEDIUM_FAILURE. When an LSM_EVENT.indication primitive is received with the Even

、t parameter set to LLC_RESET, the CAL Element enters its IDLE State and resumes normal functioning. A value of NL_FAILURE notifies the CAL Element that the LLC Sublayer is not functional and is attempting reset. When this occurs, the CAL Element operates as described for MEDIUM_FAILURE. When an LSM_

、EVENT.indication primitive is received with the Event parameter set to NL_RESET, the CAL Element enters its IDLE State and resumes normal functioning. A value of MT_FAILURE indicates that the MT Element is not functional for some reason and is currently attempting to reset itself. During failure of

、the MT Element, the Generic CAL Element continues to function but cuts off any further communications with the MT Element until it has been reset. Specifically, the Generic CAL Element will complete a pending request but will not accept any new request service primitives from the User Element. The G

、eneric CAL Element will continue to accept indication service primitives from the MT Element. However, the received messages are not passed up to the User Element in an indication service primitive, but are buffered by the Generic CAL Element (to the extent practicable in the real implementation). O

、nce an LSM_EVENT.indication primitive is received from the Layer System Management with the Event parameter set to MT_RESET, the Generic CAL Element will resume normal communications with the MT Element. 26 Copyright Consumer Electronics Association Provided by IHS under license with CEA Licensee=IHS Employees/1111111001, User=Wing, Bernie Not for Resale, 03/30/2007 20:30:35 MDTNo reproduction or networking permitted without license from IHS -,-,- CEA-721.3 Node Application Layer Specification 2.2.2.9 G_CALFAILURE_REPORT.indication 2.2.2.9.1 Purpose.
