、 for Standardization) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodies (ISO member bodies). The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried out through ISO technical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has

、the right to be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work. ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electrotechnical standardization. Intern

、ational Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2. The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards adopted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publicati

、on as an International Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vote. In other circumstances, particularly when there is an urgent market requirement for such documents, a technical committee may decide to publish other types of normative document: an ISO Publicly A

、vailable Specification (ISO/PAS) represents an agreement between technical experts in an ISO working group and is accepted for publication if it is approved by more than 50 % of the members of the parent committee casting a vote; an ISO Technical Specification (ISO/TS) represents an agreement betwee

An ISO/PAS or ISO/TS is reviewed after three years in order to decide whether it will be confirmed for a further three years, revised to become an Internati

If the ISO/PAS or ISO/TS is confirmed, it is reviewed again after a further three years, at which time it must either be transformed into an International Standard or be withdrawn. 19、don South Bank University, London South Bank University, Tue Jul 03 01:09:30 GMT+00:00 2007, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI iv Introduction The structure of safety standards in the field of machinery is as follows. a) Type-A standards (basis standards) give basic concepts, principles for design, and gen

、eral aspects that can be applied to machinery. b) Type-B standards (generic safety standards) deal with one or more safety aspect(s) or one or more type(s) of safeguards that can be used across a wide range of machinery: type-B1 standards on particular safety aspects (e.g. safety distances, surface

、temperature, noise); type-B2 standards on safeguards (e.g. two-hands controls, interlocking devices, pressure sensitive devices, guards); c) Type-C standards (machinery safety standards) deal with detailed safety requirements for a particular machine or group of machines. This Technical Specificatio

、n is a type-C standard as stated in ISO 12100-1. When provisions of this type-C standard are different from those which are stated in type-A or type-B standards, the provisions of this type-C standard take precedence over the provisions of the other standards for machines that have been designed and

、 built according to the provisions of this type-C standard. In addition, it specifies the type of information on safe working practices (including residual risks) to be provided by the manufacturer. It deals with the significant hazards (as listed in Annex A), hazardous situations and events relevan

、sign of guards shall take into consideration the risk to the operator, the proper functioning of the machine and the generation of other hazards such as drainage, avoidance of debris accumulation or blockages and the impediment of a machines material handling functions. 4.3 Guards shall be designed

、such that normal operation and service of the machine can be readily carried out. 4.4 Guards may be formed of a rigid mesh or grille. The size of the opening permitted depends on the distance between the guard and the hazard/hazardous area (see ISO 13852:1996, Table 1, 3, 4 or 6). The design of the

、guard shall be such that it is not possible to distort the mesh or the grille during normal operation and use such that the opening size and distance relationship exceeds the limits in accordance with ISO 13852. 4.5 If normal access is foreseen for example, for adjustment or maintenance guards shall

、 be used and, where practical, shall be of a type which remains attached to the machine (e.g. by means of hinges or tethers). 4.6 Machines with access doors or guards which can be opened or removed to expose machine elements which continue to rotate or move after the power is disengaged shall have,

、in the immediate area, a readily visible evidence of rotation, or an audible indication of rotation, or a suitable safety sign (see 6.1. and 6.2). 4.7 The strength of the guards shall comply with ISO 4254-1. 5 Verification of safety requirements or protective measures See Table 1.
