SCOPE These specifications define the performance requirements for corrosion resisting hexavalent chromium free finishes when applied to zi

4、nc plating and zinc/zinc alloy substrates. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were originally released to define the requirements for colorless, black, yellow, and olive drab chromium finishes when applied to zinc plating and zinc/zinc alloy substrates. The colorless chromium finish is also referre

5、d to as a clear, bright, or silver chromium finish. The bronze and olive drab chromium finishes offer maximum corrosion resistance. NOTE: Prolonged heating of the chromium finish above 65 C may produce excessive dehydration of the chromium finish resulting in a reduction of the corrosion resistance.

REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 PROCESS The chromium finish may be produced by any method which ensures coatings in accordance w

Page 2 of 2 3.3 FINISH The chromium finish shall be continuous and uniform in appearance with acceptable adhesion and

8、 shall be the color as indicated in the title of the specification unless otherwise specified on the Engineering Drawing. NOTE: The color and iridescence of the chromium finish is related to film thickness. Chromium finished parts must comply with the “Freedom from leachable chromium“ requirement of

9、 FLTM AQ 106-02. 3.4 SIGNIFICANT SURFACES Corrosion test requirements apply to those areas of the part identified as a significant surface; see 5.1 unless otherwise specified on the Engineering Drawing. 3.5 CORROSION RESISTANCE Finished components shall be tested in accordance with ASTM B 117. After

10、 the specified minimum test time, without using supplementary magnification, there shall be no white corrosion present on any significant surface. GENERAL INFORMATION The information given below is provided for clarification and assistance in meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 SIGNIFICANT SUR

12、FACES Unless otherwise specified on the Engineering Drawing, significant surfaces are defined as those surfaces of the finished part that: Are directly visible and/or visible by reflection when the finished part is assembled in position, and/or Can be the source of corrosion products directly visible or visible by reflection.
