This specification defines the pretreatment, paint materials and processing requirements to paint steel wheels

2、 for passenger cars and trucks. Paint durability mquire- ments are also inchlded. 1.1 AI PLICATIONS. Wheels that are to be fully topcoat painted can be primed with epoxy EI.PG. All other wheels should bc primed with acrylic EIPO unless epoxy EI.PG is sped% on the engineering drawing. 2 REFERENCED ST

3、ANDARDS. GM435OM GM9511P GM9102P ASTM 1186 3 REQUIREMENTS. Spific mat&al requirements and appropriate test methods are listed under proper&s. 3.1 PRETREATMENT REQUIREMENTS. Clean and zinc phosphate with approved products as shown in the GM Coxporate Materkk File for spray and/or *r&n processes. Proc

4、essing pammeters should conform to those tecommended by the chemical suppliers. 5、acceptable. 3.2 PAINT PEOCESS REQUIREMENTS. The cathodic acrylic ELPO and the cathodic epoxy EIPG paint tank solu- tions shall be maintained to continuously meet the processing req-. 3.3 PAINTED PBODUCI REQUIREMENTS. These test reqpiremnts are idended for routine acceptance and control of production

6、 painted patts using materials and processes pt+ viously found to be satisfactory. These test requirements do not necessarily represent the complete testing necessary for e-g approval. 3.3.1 For wheels with only prir& surt%ces, i.e. no topcoat, the following mpinments should be met: 3.3.1.1 Aqlic EL

7、PO dry film thickness to be 17.8 to 30.5 EpoxyELpodryfihncsstobe127to22.9 (ASTM 1186, Method B). 3.3.1.2 Painted part durability to meet the performance requiFtmtnts of GM435OM. in class A-336. 3.3.1.3 Wheels painted with the acrylic ELPO. must show minimal gloss and color change or any other delete

8、rious dects when subjected to one year of Florida exposure at 5 &om horixontal, faciug south (qua&ation only). 3.3.1.4 After scab corrosion testing per GM951lP . them shall be no mom thau 3 mm creepback or loss of adhesion &om either side of the scribed line to the paint after exposure to scab and a

9、ir blow off per GM9102P. 3.3.1.5 Appcamncc. The visual appearance of the ELI 0 may be an indication of its durability performance. The coat- ing shall present a smooth, uniform, continuous appearance. No blistets, run outs, rinsing residues or other surface defects axe pemhed. The gloss level for th

10、e acrylic ELPO shall be 70 f 10 on a 60 degree gloss meter. The gloss level for the epoxy ELPOshaUbc35to55ona60 glossmeter(10maxona2O gloss meter). Finished part appearance must compare favor- ably with approved engim&ng standards. 3.4 For wheels with only one topcoat over the ELPG primer, the follo

11、wing requirements should be metz 3.4.1 Topcoat dry film thickness to bc 20 to 38 p 3.4.2 Painted part durability to meet the performance requite- mats of GM435OM, in class A-336. 3.4.3 Painted parts must show minimal gloss and color change or any other deleterious effects when subjected to one yea o

13、nly). 3.4.5 Appearance of topcoat paints must compare favorably with approved engineering standards. The visual appearance of the topcoat may be an indication of its durability performan. Topcoat paints should be applied onlyintheamasspccificdontheengineeringdrawings. 3.5 For wheels with more than one topcoat over the ELPG primer, the following requirements should be met: 35.1 Total dry f?hu thickness of the combined topcoats to be 38 to 63 w 35.2 Pa

The minimum gravelomcter rating on wheels that have the acrylic primer shallbea4. 3.5.3 Painted parts must show minimal gloss and color change or any other deleterious effects when subjected to one year of Florida

The coating shall pr

19、esent a smooth, uniform, continuous appearance. No blisters, run outs, rinsing residues or other sur- fact defects are permitted. Topcoat paints should be applied only in the ateas specikd on the engmeering drawings. 4 INlTlAL SOURCE APPROVAL No shipment shalI bc made by any supplier until represent

20、ative initial production samples have been approved by engineer as meeting the lequimments of this specification. 4.1 Completed copies of the GM Makrial Safety Data Sheet and Cxitical Mate&l Register (available kom the engineering department or laboratory) must be submitted with any new submissions

21、or where a conqrosition change has occurmd 6 SOURCE SHIPMENT RESPONSlBILlN. Itwillbetbereofthesutoiasurethatthe material is not exposed to tempcratums during shipment which would cause the mate&d to fail to meet any of the require- lrmlts of this specification. 8 INSPECTlON AND REJECTION. All shipme

22、nts of makrial or parts under contract or pumhase order manufac- tured to this speciEcation shah bc quivalent in every respect to the initial samples approved by engkering. There shall be no changes in either fommlation or manufacturing processes permitted without prior notifkation and approval by e

23、ngineer- ing. Lack of notification by the supplier constitutes grounds for rejection of any shipment. While samples may be taken hm incoming shipments and checked for conformana to this spedcation, the supplier shall accept the responsibility for incoming shipments mating this specification without

24、depen- dence upon pumhaser s inspeUion. 7 #PROVED SOURCES. Engineering qualification of an approved source is mquired for this specification. only sourceslistedintheGMMaWalPileunderthis+cikation number have been qualifiid by engineering as meeting the lqadments of this specification. 8 GENERAL INFOR
