1、I GENERAL MOTORS ENGINEERING STANDARDS I Materials and Processes - Paint I CLEANER, ALULl 0004400 1 SCOPE. Tb.is specification covers the mqtimnts for an alkali cleaner (Powder or liquid) that will be used in the cleaning stages of spray, immersion and small parts (9984032, 9984090, and 9984123, res
2、pectively) phosphate systems. These mateds may be applied either low or high pressure on a fully or partial assembled vehicle body in white or part to removecont * . . 1.1 This process is engineered to provide a clean body in white or part by removing the contaminants including solder dust, flux, ex
3、cessive mill oils, drawing compounds and prelubes, etc., normally on the body in white or part. 1.2 Since the condition of the metal surface is critical to the performance of the phosphate, the materials used under this specification must not adversely affect the formation of the phosphate coating.
4、Themfore. these materials am considered part of the metal prutmatment process and shall bc supplied by the phosphate vendor in each plant The phosphate system is pad of the total painted product system which must meet the requirements herein. 1.3 RESTRICTED AND REPORTABLE CHEMICALS (GMlOOOM). By 199

6、 3 REQUIREMENTS. See the general phosphate specifl- cation (GM4386M) for additional requirements and requimment details not listed in this specification. 3.1 All mquircmcnts for the cleaner shall bc tested for perfor- mance versus a control. The control will be a currently approved cleaner under thi
7、s specification. Test results of the subject cleaner must be at least equal to or exceed that of the control cleaner, in addition to stated requirements. 3.2 Perform the following requirements of GM4386M. Perform these tests for all substrates listed in GM4386M, under Panel Preparation: . Sample Sin
8、e: Minimum of 3 panels unless agreed otlwmvise prior to the start of testing. . &P= . Crystal Size (GM9613P) . Coating Weight (GM9733P) 3.3 Effect of Sheet Metal Forming Lubricants on the Phosphate System (GM9611P). Run Section 3 of this test pro- cedure (3.1 - 3.3.1.6) for the 4 contaminants listed

The con tar&ants listed in this specification shall cor- respond to the following GM Approved Source Material numbers: 9981833 9981870 9981881 9984184 3.4 VOLATILE ORGANIC COMPOUNDS (VOC). Any qualified material must have a VOC level (of the concen- trate) no greater than 0.03
10、kg&. 3.5 STABIIJ IY Material shall be una&cted by normal stor- age periods and normal temperature variations. 3.6 FUNCTIONAL REQ WS. The material must pcrfotxu satisfactorily in the specified production application. Failure to do so shall constitute mason for rcjcction regardless of compliance with
11、the other requirements of this specification. 3.7 QUALITY CONTROL REQ UIREMENTS. In addition to meting all the above detailed requirements, all subsequent lots of an approved compound will be required to meet the standards of composition established in the originally approved lot. It will be the responsibility of the supplier to insure that the material is not exposed to temperatures during shipnt which would cause the material to fail to meet any of the require- ments of this specification. 5 INlllAL
13、SOURCE APPROVAL No shiprrtcnt shall bc made by any supplier until reprcscntativc initial production samples have been approved by engineering as meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 Completed copies of the GM Material Safety Data Sheet and Critical Ma&al Register (available from the c
14、ngmeering department or laboratory), or equivalent, must be submitted with any new submissions or where a composition change has occllmd. 6 INSPECllON AND RWECTION. All shipments of material or parts under contract or purchase order manufac- tured to this specification shall bc equivalent in every t
15、uspcct to the initial samples approved by engineering. Them shall be no changes in either formulation or manufacturing processes permitted without prior notification and approval by engineer- ing. Lack of notification by the supplier constitutes grounds for rejection of any shipment. While samples m
16、ay be taken from incoming shipments and checked for conformanoe to this specification, the supplier shall accept the responsibility for incoming shipments nx&ing this specification without depen- dence upon purchaser s inspection. In addition the supplier shall be responsible for submitting a CERTIF
