10、ANDARD CARGO MARKING Date of introduction 01.01.98 1 SCOPE This Standard establishes general rules of cargo marking, including export cargo, and is intended for developing the specifications for specific types of products. Hazardous cargo marking shall meet the requirements of GOST 19433. This Stand

11、ard does not apply to marking containing data on packed products, the requirements for which are stipulated in the specifications for products of specific type, or to the marking of cargoes shipped by special-purpose vehicles, by parcel post and by bulk delivery. 2 STANDARD REFERENCE In this Standar

12、d the following standard is referred to: GOST 19433-88 Hazardous cargoes. Classification and marking 3 MARKING CONTENTS 3.1 Transport marking shall contain handling marks, basic, additional and information instructions. 3.2 Handling marks are symbols specifying cargo handling methods. 3.3 Basic inst

13、ructions shall contain: full or consignees name or their identification number registered in accordance with the established procedure; name of the point of destination with the indication, if necessary, of a station or port of transhipment. If a point of destination is a railway station (port), the

14、n the full name of the station (port) and the abbreviated name of the delivering carrier (railroad or shipping company) shall be indicated; quantity of packages in a batch and package number of a batch shall be indicated in the form of a fraction: the numerator shall be the package number of the bat

15、ch, and the denominator shall be the quantity of packages in the batch. The quantity of packages and package number shall be indicated for transportation of the following cargoes: heterogeneous cargoes or cargoes of various qualities in uniform containers (e.g. cotton of various growth in bales); un

16、iform cargoes in containers of various types; uniform cargoes when mixing of grades in a batch is inadmissible; Official Edition -,-,- GOST 14192-96 equipment sets; small-size and low-weight carload shipments. 3.4 Additional instructions shall contain: full or name of consignor or their identificati

17、on number registered in accordance with the established procedure; name of the point of departure with an indication of the dispatch station and the abbreviated name of the initial carrier; marks of transport agencies (contents and methods of marking shall be stipulated by the rules of the transport

18、 ministries). 3.5 Information instructions shall contain: package gross and net weight in kg. It is allowed to specify the quantity of items in units instead of net weight, and also not to mark gross or net weight or the quantity of items in units, if they are specified in the marking of packed prod

19、ucts; package dimensions in cm (length, width and height or diameter and height). The dimensions shall not be indicated if none of the dimensions exceeds 1 m when the cargo is transported in open rolling stock, 1.2 m when the cargo is transported in boxcar or 0.7 when the cargo is transported by air

20、. 3.6 When cargo is transported in bags each bag shall have basic, additional and information instructions. In this case, instead of package quantity and the number of packages in the batch, the following marks shall be used: In the numerator: the total quantity of bags in a batch; In the denominato

21、r: the quantity of packages in a bag; the bag number in brackets, e.g.: 50 3 (2). Basic, additional and information instructions (except for gross and net weight) shall not be marked on the rest of the packages contained in the bag. On bags containing cargoes transported unpacked, the necessity of m

22、arking the total quantity of bags in a batch, quantity of packages in a bag and bag number shall be stipulated in the specifications for products of specific type. 4 HANDLING MARKS 4.1 The symbol, name and purpose of handling marks shall comply with those listed in table 1. 4.2 It is allowed to use

33、e according to table 1 and the name of this Standard. Example: 2 14192; “ ” GOST 14192. 5 PLACE AND METHOD OF TRANSPORT MARKING 5.1 The order of transport marking arrangement is presented in Appendix A. Transport instructions (basic, additional and information instructions and handling marks) shall

34、be marked on paper, cardboard, plywood, metal or other labels, or directly on the containers. 5.2 When transporting cargoes in open rolling stock by combined rail/water transport or by water transport as well as by small-size and small-weight shipment if the cargo is stored for over one year, then t

35、he instructions shall be marked directly on the container or on labels, which shall be securely fixed and protected or manufactured from materials ensuring the markings protection. 5.3 Basic, additional and information instructions are arranged as follows: on boxes: on one of the sides. For lattice

36、boxes and boxes with outside planks the possibility of the marking arrangement (attachment of planks, elimination of clearance between planks etc.) shall be ensured. When transported in open rolling stock in low-weight or small-size shipments, cargoes with a “Top” mark shall have additional transpor

37、t marking (besides the consignor name and point of departure) on the upper side (cover) of the package; on casks and barrels: on one of the bottoms. It is allowed to mark instructions on the case; on bags: in the upper part close to a seam; on piles: on one of the sides; on stacks: on the end surfac

38、e. It is allowed to mark instructions on the side surface; on other types of containers and on unpacked cargoes: in the most convenient and well observable places. When marking directly on a container (5.2), if the container size and design do not allow the arranging of the required marking on a sid

39、e wall, then it is allowed to mark instructions on the side or end walls and/or on the cover. Examples of marking arrangement are shown in Appendix A. 5.4 For unpacked items, marking is allowed directly on an item. 5.5 Handling marks (warning instructions) shall be marked on each package in the left

40、 upper corner on two adjacent walls of a container (see Appendix A). On casks and barrels marks shall be arranged on one of the bottoms or on a case; on bags: on one of the sides. 5.5.1 Mark No. 9 shall be arranged directly on a container on two opposite sides. It is allowed for unpacked cargoes to

41、arrange mark No. 9 on labels or directly on a cargo. 5.5.2 Mark No. 12 shall be arranged on adjacent side and end surfaces of the package at the point of the actual cargo center of gravitys projection towards these surfaces. 5.6 On bags arranged without pallets or on four-way entry pallets, instruct

42、ions shall be marked on adjacent side and end surfaces. On bags arranged on two-way entry pallets, instructions shall be marked on two grip sides. 5.7 The following marking methods shall be used: typographical, lithographic, electrolytic, painting with a stencil, punching, stamping, branding, typing

43、 or using a marking machines. It is allowed to mark legibly the names of a consignee and point of destination on labels, and also the quantity of packages and package number in the batch may be marked on labels and directly on a container by hand on condition that the instructions shall remain prote

44、cted until the cargo is received. 5.8 The labels shall be attached to the package (cargo) by glue, bolts, screws, wire, twine or other materials ensuring the cargo and markings protection. 5.9 The color used for marking shall not be sticky or erasable; if necessary, the painting shall be water-proof

45、, light-resistant, salt-resistant and resistant to the effects of tropical climate, high and low temperatures. GOST 14192-96 5.10 Handling marks and instructions shall be of dark color on light surfaces and of light color on dark surfaces. It is permissible to represent mark No. 1 in red color on a

46、light background for rail cargo transportation. Mark No. 6 is represented in blue color on a light background. Mark No. 13 is represented in red color. It is permissible not to indicate the symbol of raindrops on mark No. 3. It is allowed to mark handling instructions with gaps. 5.11 The necessity o

47、f handling instructions marking shall be stipulated in standards or specifications for items. 5.12 Transport instructions (basic, additional and information instructions and handling marks) shall be marked on each package. It is allowed to mark basic, additional and information instructions (except

48、for gross and net weight) not on all packages but on no fewer than four for carload shipment of uniform cargo in direct traffic. It is allowed to mark basic, additional and information instructions (except for gross and net weight) for transportation by truck and in universal containers, except for trucks and containers loaded with small shipments. 6 DIMENSIONS OF MARKING LABELS, HANDLING MARKS AND INSTRUCTIONS 6.1 The area of a label for marking basic, additional and information instructions shall be
