、sponds to the second hazard class as regards the degree of its effect on humans in accordance with GOST 12.1.007. 1.2.5.2. Manganese is a toxic substance, whose prolonged action causes organic changes of the central nervous system. Inhaling the dust of manganese-containing materials may promote gene

、ral toxic effect as well as development of a specific form of pneumoconiosis, i.e., manganoconiosis. 1.2.5.3. The maximum allowed concentration of manganese dust in the working zone air is 0.3 mg/m3 (as MnO2) in accordance with GOST 12.1.005. The other hygienic norms for the content of manganese in

、the environment are listed in the Appendix. 1.2.5.4. The content of manganese in the working zone air shall be monitored on a regular basis in accordance with GOST 12.1.007, using the method approved by the USSR Ministry of Health. 1.2.5.5. The toxicity of the manganese cakes is increased by air and

、 oxidizing environments, which affect the transformation of manganese into the reactive hexavalent state. The storage of metallic manganese and nitrided manganese shall prevent it from over- oxidation. 1.2.5.6. The lower concentration limit of flame propagation is: 90 g/m3 for metallic manganese; 1

、000 g/m3 for nitrided manganese. The self-inflammation temperature of aerosol is: 240 C for metallic manganese; 620 C for nitrided manganese. The methods for the determination of fire and explosion danger indicators shall comply with GOST 12.1.044. 1.3. Packing and marking Packing and marking of met

、allic manganese and nitrided manganese shall comply with GOST 26590 with the following addition: metallic and nitrided manganese shall be packed in wooden boxes, metal barrels, or specialized containers. Delivery of metallic manganese of grades 965 and 95 in bulk is allowed. 2. ACCEPTANCE 2.1. Metal

、lic manganese and nitrided manganese shall be accepted in batches. A batch shall consist of manganese of the same grade produced in the course of one or several melts. Manganese of grades 998, 997, and 926 shall be accepted in batches consisting of manganese of a single melt. The deviation on the ma

、ss fraction of manganese in separate batch melts shall not exceed 2.0 % for grade 965 and 2.5 % for grades 95, 876, 894, and 912. The sample size for the determination of the chemical composition shall comply

、 with GOST 26999. 2.3. The sample size for the determination of the maximal lump mass and for checking for the absence of contaminants shall be six pieces taken randomly from a batch. 2.4. The sample size for the determination of the size distribution shall comply with GOST 22310. 2.5. The following

、 parameters shall be determined in each batch of metallic and nitrided manganese: for grades 998, 997, and 926: mass fractions of manganese, carbon, and sulfur; for grades 965, 95, 876, 894, and 912: mass fraction of manganese, carbon, silicon, and phosphorus; for all grades of nitrided manganese: m

At the customers request, the following components shall be determined in metallic manganese: in grades 998 and 997, mass fractions of silicon and phosphorus; in grades 876, 894, and 912, mass fraction of sulfur; in grades 965 and 95, mass fractions of sulfur and iron.

、 2.7. If test results are unsatisfactory even against one of the indicators, a re-test shall be carried out on twice the number of samples taken from the same batch. The results of re- testing shall be assigned to the entire batch. 3. TEST METHODS 3.1. Sampling and sample preparation for the determi
