This specification covers the qualifications and performance requirements for flexible, exterior, one-com- ponent, solventborne, b

2、asecoat/clearcoat topcoats for use over plastic substrates. 1.1 Basecoat components of these systems may be high sol- ids or low solids materials and are identified by 9984505 or 9984518 plus the individual WAXXXX color codes. 1.2 Clearcoat components of these systems are identified by 9984506. 1.3

3、Each combination of specific basecoat and clearcoat must be tested and approved as a basecoatlclearcoat system. The individual components are not interchangeable. In addition, the topcoat system is part of the total system and must meet quali- fications set forth in this specification and shown on e

4、ngineering drawings. 2 REFERENCED STANDARDS. GMlOOOM GM4495M 9984506 GM4367M GM4496M 9984518 GM4493M GM9620M 9984801 GM4494M 9984505 ASTM D1186 3 REQUIREMENTS. Materials approved to this speciti- cation must meet all of the minimum requirements of GM4367M, Class 3, Type D. 3.1 RESTRICTED AND REPORTA

5、BLE CHEMICALS (GMlOOOM). By the start of saleable vehicles, all materials supplied to this specification must comply with the require- ments listed in GMlOOOM, “Restricted and Reportable Chemicals.” 3.2 SUBMISSION INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS (GM4493M). Chart 1 of this specification must be completed pr

6、ior to approval of the product. 3.3 PANEL PREPARATION. Panels are to be prepared per GM4494M for Type D materials. Note that powerwashing per 9984801 is required. 3.4 COMPATIBILITY. Compatibility with associated materi- als are evaluated per GM4495M for the respective type of usage. 3.5 PROCESSABILI

7、TY. Processability must be demon- strated per GM4496M. 3.6 FILM THICKNESS (ASTM D1186). The coating must meet all specified appearance and durability requirements within the general film build ranges as indicated in Table 1. Individual colors may have narrower ranges for optimum appearance. Individu

8、al colors may also have higher minimum film builds than the technology minimum due to hiding or ultraviolet opacity. The acceptable range for a color or specific pigmentation will be established during the annual “Pigmenta- tion Evaluation” (GM9620M), and will be approved and released by NAO Paint E

9、ngineering. 3.6.1 Film Build Latitude. The specific clearcoat film build range must be established by a Designed Experiment or a matrix ranging from 25 to 63 pm (1.0 to 2.5 mils). Performance criteria are xenon, Florida, flex, adhesion, chip. 3.6.2 Film build requirements for Zone D or any deviation

10、s to Zone A to C will be specified on individual part drawings. Products that are approved to this specification have a typical bake range

11、 of 116 to 135 C (240 to 275F). Basecoats have a typical flash of 1 to 2 minutes between coats. Clearcoats are applied wet-on-wet over basecoat. Time at sub- strate temperature typically varies from 20 to 90 minutes. Cure charts must be developed for each specific product as shown in GM4494M to defi

12、ne technology limits. 3.6.4 Processing. These topcoats are designed to be applied over a baked primer. Any wet-on-wet applications over primer must be evahtated as a separate paint system per this specifica- tion and the applicable primer specification. 4 SOURCE SHIPMENT RESPONSIBILITY. It will be t

13、he responsibility of the supplier to insure that the material is not exposed to temperatures during shipment which would cause the material to fail to meet any of the require- ments of this specification. 5 INITIAL SOlhCE APPROVAL. No shipment shall be made by any supplier until representative initi

14、al production samples have been approved by engineering as meeting the requirements of this specification. 5.1 Completed copies of the Material Safety Data Sheet meeting GM information requirements must be submitted with any new submissions or whenever a composition change has occurred. 6 INSPECTION

15、 AND REJECTION. All shipments of material or parts under contract or purchase order manufac- tured to this specification shall be equivalent in every respect to the initial samples approved by engineering. There shall be no changes in either formulation or manufacturing processes permitted without p

16、rior notification and approval by engineer- ing. Lack of notification by the supplier constitutes grounds for rejection of any shipment. While samples may be taken from incoming shipments and checked for conformance to this specification, the supplier shall accept the responsibility for incoming shi

17、pments meeting this specification without depen- dence upon purchaser s inspection.
