1、I GENERAL MOTORS ENGINEERING STANDARDS I Materials and Processes - Adhesives i ADHESIVE, INDUCTION CURE, EPOXY, STRUCTURAL - METAL 9985599 1 SCOPE. This specification details the physical proper- ties and performance requirements of a 1 component, heat curing (induction or oven), thennosetting, epox

2、y based, stnic- tural adhesive paste modified to reach sufficient handling strength (metai distortion) in a normal induction cure cycle. The adhesive is commonly used to bond steel body compo- nents such as innerlouter body panels on doors, hoods, deck lids and other components. 1.1 The adhesive sha

3、ll be a non sag material capable of adhering and bonding through ail common oils and drawing compounds approved by CPC Engineering for use on steel components. The material is compatible with piain steel (cold died), zincrometai or hot dipped and ekarocoated gaivanized steeL The adhesive m u s t be

4、homogeneous and frae of lumps or unmixed particles. The uncured material when applied in a hem fiange section must withstand production zinc phosphat- ing, - 0 processing and the subsequent bake temperames of up to W C . The adhesive can also be cured with a min 30 minute akc 1OC with or without a p

5、rior single 4 s induc- tion cum cycle in a normal, w i n coil designed fi run at 3 kHz. Other induction cure coil designs may necessitate longer dwell times for the cure cycle. The adhesive is also capable of being roboticaiiy applied in a hem flange area under n o d fabricating plant conditions. Pr

6、ovisions should be made in the fabrication process to monitor hem fiange temperatures during induction heating to insure that the level of cure nquindis met. 2 REFERENCED STANDARDS. 3.1.6 Stability. When conditioned as stated below, the adhe- sive shall be capable of meting aii the requkments of the

7、 3.1.6.1 Elevated Tempenrture Stability. The adhesive as received be capable of withstanding a temperature of 54C for 72 h without any deleterious effects. 3.1.6.2 Low Tcmpcratruie Stability. The adhesive as received shall be capable of being frozen (OC) indefinitely without any deletehms effcts on

8、the adhesive perfonnance. 3.1.7 Resmire Stability (GM9761P). The adhesive must be capable of withstanding pumping pressures without adversely effezthg its flow characttns tics. The materiai must not cake and or separak after being subjected to 13 790 kPa for 24 h . 3.1.8 Sag Characteristics (GM9749P

The material shall not exhibit any perceptible slump or movement with a 6 mm dia bead applied over a n oiled, piah, steel, zincromeai, gaiva- nized or aluminum panel In addition when a 6 mm dia bead of adhesive is sandwiched between oily pieces of steel 6 mm apart, the material must not run o r f

10、low out during the produc- tion baking operation. 3.2 Material Properties (Cured State). The adhesive for the testing in t h i s section of the specification should be applied in mock up hemmed panels as shown in Figure 1. Adhesive bond line thickness w i l l be 0.127 to 0.254 mm. The steel used in

11、these panels should be of te various types outlined in the gen- eral description section of the standard coated with all the SpeCifiCati0I.C approved rpin design) run for 4 s min with 3 LHZ power. (Unless otherwise noted, the strength and performance quire- ments of the adhesive in this standard are

12、 determined w i t h Oniy an induction cure.) ASTMD1002 should be cured inan induction cure kd with 2 direct GM921P GM9751P GM9505P GM9761P SAE J243 GM951 1P 9984Ooo GM9749P ASTM D638 3 REQUIREMENB. 3.1 Ropcrtics. 3.1.1 Color. To be detexmimi a t t i m e of approval. 3.1.2 Odor. The adhesive must not

13、 have a toxic or noxious odor and shal not have any adverse effects on personnel hau- dling it. There must also be no perceptible odor from the adhesive during or aftcr cure. 3.1.3 Solids Content (ASTM D 1 0 8 4 ) 98% by mass min 3.21 Phosphate Resistance. Coat 3 sets of hem simulated panels outline

14、d in P i p 1 (0.75 mm metai gauge) made from CRS, zincrometai and galvanized with ail the currently used fabrication plant inner/outer drawing compounds and lubri- cants (30 m4m2). Apply beads of adhesive (4 to 6 mm) in the hem flange area of the panels and then induction cure as speci- fiid. Pass t

15、he panels hung vertically through a production cleaning and phosphating system where direct impingement of the spray occurs on the hcmmed areas. Panels a to be hung at heights representative o f top, nter and bottoms of a ved- caliy hung hood. The beads of adhesive in the hems must show excellent ph

16、osphate resistance w i t h no wash out from the panels. 3.1.4 Specific Gravity, room tempe- 1.32 f 0.05 3.15 Vicosity (GM9021P). When tested with a flowmeter at a pressure of 448 H a with 2.64 mm dia orifkc. 3.22 Solvent Resistance and Painabiiiy. Process the above described panels through a product

17、ion ELPO (LTniptlme) paint system. Mm m y show some &or m- face softening, but no cracking or loss of adhesion, bleeding or other deleterious effeds am allowed. The materiai should be compatible with ail electrodeposition primer systems shown on the 9984OOO A and B &awing. Bake temperature to be 1WC

Panels processed per 3.2.1 and 3.2.2should be exposed to the following environments for comsion resistance: 6 weeks GM9505P 2 0 cycles of the Scab Corrosion Enwonmcnt (GM9511P) Overiap Shear 2450 N min 23C (or Metal Defonnatiod 3.2.2.1.1 After exposure is complete, the hems should be peeled back o

21、n the test panel with the enclosed surfaces show- ing no sign of red comsion products. 3.3 PHYSICAL PROPERTES (CURED S“E). All tests in 3.3.3 and 3.3.4 should be p e r f o d on panels of the same construction as outlined in 3.2of this standard. (Unless otherwise stated these pads should only be indu

22、ction cured or to t e s t i n g . ) 3.3.1 Tensile Strength (ASTM D638). 52 f 5 MPa at a crosshead sped of 10 m&mhk after an additional 30 min- nte bake 16oc. 3.3.2 Elongation (ASTM D638). The elongation shali meet the following requirmitnts after a 30 minute bake lWC, 2% min at a crosshead rate of 1

23、0 mm/minute. 3.3.3 Shear Srcngh (ASTM D 1 0 0 2 ) . The panels used for the testing in this section wili be induction cured as previousiy and in the cascs outlined will also be subjected to a simuiated ELPO (vniprm) bake for 3 0 minutes 16oC. The testing will be conducted on 25.4 mm widths of the he

24、mmed panels with a crosshead movexmnt of 10 mm/minute. The adhesive streaigth of the aiiedmatuia sha be -than i t s cohesive strength. It is recommended that the product be stored in a controlled environment of 3 5 C for ultimate perfor- mance within 90 day

The product is to be shipped 3 5 . 4 2 max. 4 INITIAL SOURCE APPROVAL No shipment shall be made by any supplier u n t i l representative initial production samples have been approved by engineering as meeting the rcquurments of this specification, 4.1 Completed copies of the GM Mater

35、iai Safety Data Sheet and Critical Material Register (available from the engineering department or laboratory) must be submitted with any new submissions or where a composition change has occurred. 5 INSPECTION AND RWECTION. A l l shipments of maerial or parts under contract or purchase order manufa

36、c- tured to this specification shali be equivalent in every respect to the i n i t i a i samples approved by engineexing. “hre shali be no changes in either formulation or manufacturing processes pcrmiaed without prior notification and approval by engineer- ing. Lack of notification by the supplier

37、constitutes grounds for Ejection of any shipment. While samples may be taken from incoming shipments and checked for conforman to t h i s specification, the supplier shall accept the responsibility for incoming shipments xmeting this specification without depen- den upon purchasers inspection. 6 APP
