8、d and disposed of with a copious supply of water as soon as the test is completed, as explosive compounds may be formed. 1 Scope and field of application This British Standard describes a method for the detection of reducing substances in dynamite grade and chemically pure glycerol. 2 References The
9、 titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 3 Principle Treatment of an ammoniacal test portion with silver nitrate solution and comparison of the colour produced with that of a standard matching solution of dextrose treated in the same way. 4 Reagen
10、ts The reagents used shall be of a recognized analytical grade. Distilled water complying with the requirements of BS 3978 or water of at least equal purity shall be used. 4.1 Ammonia solution, 100 g/l. Dilute concentrated ammonia solution, 35 % (m/m), (13N), 1 + 2. 4.2 Silver nitrate, 100 g/l solut
11、ion. 4.3 Dextrose, 1.0 g/l standard matching solution. 5 Apparatus 5.1 Test tube, thin walled, approximately 150 mm 25 mm. Two are required. 6 Sampling Prepare the laboratory sample as described in Part 2 of this British Standard. 7 Procedure Transfer 5 ml of the sample to one of the test tubes (5.1
12、) and 5 ml of the dextrose solution (4.3) to the other, and add 5 ml of the ammonia solution (4.1) to each. Mix well and place the tubes in a beaker of hot water at 50 5 C. Raise the water temperature to 60 C and maintain at this temperature for 5 min. Remove the tubes from the beaker and add rapidl
13、y from the pipette (5.2) 0.25 ml of the silver nitrate solution (4.2) to each. The tip of the pipette should be kept in the centre of the mouth of the tubes and the stream of reagent shall not be allowed to touch the wall. Mix well and allow to stand in the dark for 5 min. Compare the colours produc
14、ed. NOTE 1It is recommended that all tests should be carried out in duplicate. NOTE 2It is essential to carry out the test exactly as described in order to obtain reproducible results. 8 Test report 8.1 Report whether lighter than, matching or darker than the matching solution. 8.2 The test report s
15、hall include the following particulars: a) a reference to this British Standard; b) the result; c) any unusual features noticed during the test; d) any operation not included in this British Standard or regarded as optional.
