9、s been prepared under the direction of the Plastics Standards Policy Committee and is a revision of BS 5734-3:1980, which is withdrawn. This Part of BS 5734 is the third in a series for polyester moulding compounds; the other Parts are as follows: Part 1: Methods of test; Part 2: Specification for d

10、ough moulding compounds for electrical purposes; Part 4: Specification for sheet moulding compounds for electrical purposes; Part 5: Specification for sheet moulding compounds for mechanical purposes. In this revision the test methods and the material performance have been updated. Three types of do

11、ugh moulding compounds for mechanical mouldings are specified in this Part and they may be further distinguished by their oxygen index. The three types specified are not intended to be used for electrical applications and it is therefore not specified that any glass fibre reinforcement be E-glass al

12、though the use of asbestos as a reinforcement is outside the scope of the standard. The requirements for low profile grades are under consideration and it is planned to issue a supplement in due course to cater for this type of material. Given in Appendix A is a list of additional properties that ma

The properties specified in Table 1 and those recommended in Appendix A are intended for quality control purposes and should not be used for design data. Product certifica

Users of this British Standard are advised to consider the desirability of third party certification of product conformity with this British Standard based on testing and continuing surveillance, which may be coupled with assessment of a suppliers quality systems against the appropriate Part o

If a third party certification scheme does not already exist, users should consider approaching an appropriate body from the list of Association membe

NOTE 1Appendix A lists further properties and appropriate test methods that may be specified by agreement between the purchaser and the supplier. NOTE 2The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are

NOTECompounds may be further distinguished by their oxygen index if agreed between the purchaser and the supplier (see Appendix A). 4 Composition The material shall consist of an unsaturated polyester resin system, combined with fillers and fibrous reinforcement other than

Test specimens for the determination of impact strength shall be either moulded to size or cut fro

24、m moulded sheet. They shall be notched by milling as specified in BS 2782:Method 359. In cases of dispute, the specimens shall be moulded to size. Test specimens for the determination of flexural strength shall be cut from moulded sheet. 6 Conditioning of test specimens before testing Unless otherwi

25、se specified in the test method, moulded test specimens shall be conditioned for at least 16 h at a temperature of 23 2 C and ambient relative humidity before testing. 7 Properties When tested by the appropriate methods, the moulded and conditioned material (see clauses 5 and 6) shall comply with Ta
