9、ritish Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Packaging and Freight Containers Standards Policy Committee. It supersedes BS 4853:1972 which is withdrawn and applies to tensional steel strapping suitable for lifting purposes and revises the tensile strengths of other strappings. This s

10、tandard specifies tolerances; specific dimensions for strapping are available from manufacturers. Various finishes are listed in Appendix A but it should be noted that, in addition, other finishes may be obtained which may improve the material for a particular purpose. The finish may affect the mech

11、anical properties and the manufacturers advice should therefore be obtained when finishes other than those listed in Appendix A are selected. Users of tensional steel strapping are recommended to consult BS 1133-15 which gives guidance on its use. A British Standard does not purport to include all t

12、he necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii

13、, pages 1 to 4, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Fri Dec 01 07:50:47 GMT+00:00 2006

14、, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI BS 4853:1989 BSI 11-19991 1 Scope This British Standard specifies tolerances and tensile strengths for cold rolled flat strip, hot rolled flat strip and round, oval and flat wire tensional steel strapping for general packaging purposes. It also specifies tolerances, tens

15、ile strengths and the joint strength for cold rolled flat strip suitable for lifting and lashing purposes. Guidance on the surface finishes available is given in Appendix A. NOTEThe title of the publication referred to in this standard is given on the inside back cover. 2 Definitions For the purpose

The various minimum tensile s

Users are advised to ch

33、eck with their suppliers that the finish they require can be supplied for the type, size and quality of strapping that they are ordering. The surface finishes generally available are as follows. a) Bright. The natural surface of uncoated steel in a cold rolled condition. The strapping is supplied ei

34、ther lightly oiled or non-lubricated. b) Blued and waxed. The blue finish is imparted by heat which also cleans the surface. Usually a wax coating is added to enhance the ability of the strapping to “flow” round corners and, with certain types of strapping equipment, to improve tensioning efficiency

35、. c) Painted and waxed. Various paints are used to provide a degree of resistance to corrosion or to check chemical reaction between the strapping and the surface of the goods being strapped. d) Electro zinc galvanized. A zinc coating is applied by an electrolytic deposition process to provide a deg

36、ree of resistance to corrosion. e) Hot dipped galvanized. A corrosion resistant zinc coating is applied by immersion in a bath of the molten metal. f) Copper coated. A copper coating is applied by electrolytic deposition. NOTEFor applications requiring a high degree of corrosion resistance, stainles

A.2 Flat strapping For tensional steel strapping in flat strip form the normal commercial surface finishes are: a) bright; b) blued and waxed; c) painted and waxed and galvanized. A.3 Wire strapping For tensional steel strapping wire the normal commercial surface finis
