、in the 1970 edition of BS 2613, “Electrical performance of rotating electrical machines”. This standard is based on the seventh edition of Publication 34-1 issued by the International Electrotechnical Commission, but it includes features not contained in the IEC Publication, e.g. classified starting

、 performance. When making a firm enquiry for an electrical machine within the scope of this standard, the intending purchaser should provide, or make available, all particulars of the service conditions which affect the design, testing, performance and operation of the machine. Where optional requir

、ements are included in the parts of BS 4999, “General requirements for rotating electrical machines”, called up by this standard, the choice should be agreed on at the line of enquiry, and attention directed to the appropriate clauses containing such requirements. When ordering a machine the purchas

、er should make available all particulars of the service conditions which affect the design, testing, performance and operation of the machine together with his choice of any optional requirements included in the standard. Alternatively he should confirm such data as may have been previously provided

、 with an enquiry to ensure that the basis for the design, manufacture and testing of the machine is correctly established. This standard forms a Part of BS 5000 which, together with BS 4999, will eventually form a comprehensive series of British Standards for rotating electrical machines. A list of

、the contents of BS 5000 showing all the parts envisaged in the foreseeable future is given in the General Introduction and Index (published separately) which will be brought up to date as new parts are published. The contents of BS 4999 are given in Part 0 of that standard. A British Standard does n

、ot purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside

、front cover, pages i and ii, pages 1 and 2, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Mon De

、c 04 12:34:29 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI BS 5000-99:1973 BSI 02-20001 1 Scope This Part of this British Standard specifies requirements for rotating electrical machines, without limitation of output or voltage, which are not covered by any other Part of BS 5000. It does not however,

、cover machines intended for use in ships, air transport or traction vehicles, or small power or turbine-type machines, for all of which reference should be made to the appropriate British Standards where these exist. NOTEThe titles of the Publications referred to in this standard are listed on the i

、nside back cover. 2 Terms and definitions The definitions of terms required for the understanding of this standard are given in BS 4999-101. 3 Types of enclosure and methods of cooling A cooling method and type of protection for any machine within the scope of this standard shall be recommended by t

、he manufacturer unless otherwise specified by the purchaser. Degrees of protection by enclosure shall be in accordance with BS 4999-105, and methods of cooling shall be selected from BS 4999-106. Since the assignment of a rating to a machine is dependent on the method of cooling and, in some cases,

、on the type of protective enclosure, whenever parts of the cooling system are external to the machine and the quantities or velocities of coolant flow can be affected by external conditions, the coolant quantities shall be specified as part of the rating. For gas cooled machines the gas pressure(s)

、shall be related to the rated output(s) and shall be indicated on the rating plate. 4 Service and operating conditions Machines shall be suitable for the service and operating conditions specified in BS 4999-101 which also lists the information to be supplied by the purchaser with his enquiry and/or

、 order. 5 Performance requirements and terminal markings Machines built to comply with this British Standard shall meet the appropriate performance requirements specified in Parts 101, 112, 140, 142 and 143 of BS 4999. Terminal markings and relation between terminal markings and direction of rotatio

、n shall be in accordance with the requirements of BS 4999-108. 6 Efficiency The method of arriving at the efficiency shall be as set out in BS 4999-102. In the case of machines having no useful power output, such as synchronous condensers, the losses shall be stated in kilowatts. If a statement of e

、fficiency or losses at other than rated conditions is required, the purchaser should specify, at the time of enquiry, the loads and, in the case of a.c. generators and synchronous motors, the powers factors to which the statement shall apply. 7 Rating plate marking The rating plate of machines compl

、ying with this British Standard shall have marked on it the relevant information specified in BS 4999-101, and shall also carry the BS number and part number of this standard, i.e. BS 5000-99.
