8、 Standard has been prepared on the basis of the first edition of IS0 302, Pulps-Determination of Kappa number, without any modification in technical content, except below-stated specified content. Summary of different points on specified content 0 Standards in JIS are supplemented in normative refer

9、ences. I The preparation methods for reagents are supplemented. In taking of sample, the method specified in JIS is supplemented. In the determination of sample water, the method specified in JIS is supplemented. mentioned in corresponding International Standard. In this Standard, the places underli

10、ned with dotted line are those which are not 1 Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies a method for determination of the Kappa number of pulp (hereafter referred to as “Kappa number”). This test method gives the index of lignin content or bleachability of pulp, and is applicable to all kin

11、ds of unbleached pulp obtained in yields under 60 % (mass/mass), and to semi-bleached chemical pulp and semi-chemical pulp. Remarks 1 The International Standard corresponding to this Standard is as follows. IS0 302 : 1981 Pulps-Determinution of Kappa number 2 The relations between Kappa number and l

12、ignin content are different depending on the wood species and delignification procedures, and when the Kappa number is set as an index of lignin content, specified relation will have to be developed for each pulp type. When Kappa number is KP (kraft pulp) 125 or more, or SP (sulphite pulp) 100 or mo

13、re, however, it shall be attached. The method also applicable for determination on semi-bleached chemical pulps whose sample mass is at most 10 g, and in this case the lowest limit of Kappa number shall be 5. The degree of digestion and delignification of higher-yield pulp shall be determined by the

14、 methods which do not involve permanganate oxidation, such as IS0 3260. 3 4 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this Standard, constitute provisions of this Standard. These variations, which shall be used only for pr

32、ocess control purposes, can give the test results similar to the results obtained by standard method, but cannot be considered as complying with the standard procedure, therefore the fact that the variations have been used shall be stated in the test report. 1 Preparation of sample 1.1 Mix it suffic

33、iently, filter it through Bchner funnel, avoiding any loss of fibers and fines, and prepare sample matt that corresponds to 3 g to 10 g in oven-dry mass. Air-dry this matt at ordinary temperature or at not higher than 105 O C , and tear it into small pieces. Screened slush pulp sample 1.2 the same p

Unscreened pulp which is normally screened before bleaching or other processing Remove the shives and knots from the sample by screening. 36、he preparation of the screened pulps as specified in 1.1. 2 Variations for ordinary management The procedures specified in 8 of this Standard body shall follow the below-stated procedures. 2.1 Case of small test sample or low Kappa number Such quantities as, 50 ml of 0.02 mol/Z potassium permanganat

37、e solution (5.1), 50 ml of 2 mol/Z sulfuric acid (5.4), 400 ml of water, and the appropriate amount of pulp, shall be taken. In this case, when half the volumes of potassium permanganate solution (5.1) is used, V, in the Table 1 of 9 of this Standard body, shall be made 2V,. Thus, if VI is 25 ml, 2V

38、1 becomes 50 ml, and the correction factor is 1.000. Other than above-stated, follow the standard procedures. 2.2 follows. Disintegration in reaction beaker The disintegration in reaction beaker shall be as a) b) Easily disintegrated sample can be slurried directly in the reaction beaker. In case of

39、 low Kappa number (see 2.1), a 1 O00 ml reaction beaker or a kitchen mixer can be used for disintegrator or reaction beaker. P 8211 : 1998 2.3 Correction of reaction temperature When a thermostatic bath is not available, measure the temp

41、erature of the pulp mixture after the reaction has been taking place for 5 minutes, and assume this to be the average reaction temperature (t) throughout the test. Control the temperature to fall in the range from 20 O C to 30 O C , and obtain the Kappa number by approximate correction according to
