4、ns at the Japanese Industrial Standards Commit- tee in accordance with the Industrial Standardization Law. Thereby, JIS H 8680 : 1993 was withdrawn, and the non-destructive measure- ment by split-beam microscope in the withdrawn standard is replaced by this part 3. In this establishment, in order to

5、 help comparison of JIS with ISO, preparation of JIS conforming to IS0 and proposal for a draft of Inter- national Standard based on JIS, among four kinds of measuring meth- ods which have been specified in the former JIS H 8680 (i) Microscopical method, (2) Eddy current method and (3) Non-destructi

6、ve measurement by split-beam microscope are established as the respective standards of JIS H 8680-1, JIS H 8680-2, JIS H 8680-3, and (4) Determination of mass per unit area of anodic oxide coatings is separated from the series and established as JIS H 8688. 11、uction This Japanese Industrial Standard has been prepared based on IS0 2128, Anodizing of aluminium and its alloys-Determination of thickness of anodic oxide coatings-Non-destructive measurement by split-beam microscope issued in 1976 without changing technical contents. This Standard specifying th

12、e test method re- lated to the coating thickness of anodic oxide coating applied on aluminium and alu- minium alloys comprises three parts of the microscopical method, the eddy current method, and the non-destructive measurement by split-beam microscope, and its ap- plication shall be subjected to t

13、he agreement according to the shape of a product, the kind of a coating, the coating thickness, etc. between the supplier and the purchaser. 1 Scope This Standard specifies the coating thickness test method by the non- destructive measurement by split-beam microscope for anodic oxide coatings (here-

14、 after referred to as “coatings”) applied on the products of aluminium and aluminium alloys (hereafter referred to as “products”). Remarks : The International Standard corresponding to this Standard is as fol- lows. IS0 2128 : 1976 Anodizing of aluminium and its alloys-Determina- tion of thickness o

18、nto a test piece, the distance between the reflection beam from the coating surface and from the basis metal surface is measured, and the coating thickness is obtained from the relation to the refractive index of the coating. This method is applied to the transparent coating or the coating close to

19、trans- parent, and is not applied to the coating which is low in transparency of light. 21、e at 45“ incident angle, and the dis- tance between the reflectied beam (RI) from the coating surface and the reflected beam (R2) from the basis metal surface shall be read in 200 to 400 magnifications. Fig. 1 Optical path 6 Test piece The test piece shall be as follows. a) The sampling position of

22、a test piece shall be the significant surface of a prod- uct. Where the product can not be tested, the test piece made of the same material() and prepared under the same treating condition of the coating(2) as the product may be used. The standard dimensions of a test piece shall be 50 mm x 50 mm. T

23、he test sur- face of the test piece shall be flat. A test piece shall be previously cleaned by using a soft cloth dipped in a suit- able solvent(3) depending on the stain. b) c) 7 Operation The grade, temper grade, and the surface state before treatment of the material shall be the same as those of

24、the product. The pretreatment and the treatment of a coating shall be executed in the same bath and under the same condition as those for the product so that the same performance as that of the product can be obtained. The suitable solvent herein refers to acetone, ethanol, ethyl ether, methyl ethyl

25、 ketone, etc., and those which corrode a test piece or form a protective coating shall not be used. The operation shall be carried out in the following order. a) A test piece is attached to a test base so that the measuring surface is horizon- tal. b) The reflected beam (Rz) from the basis metal is

26、superimposed on the reference line by moving the dial of the micrometer, and the scale of the micrometer is read. c) The reflected beam (Ri) from the coating surface is superimposed on the refer- ence line by moving the dial of the micrometers and the scale of the micrometer is read. 28、e operations of b) and c) are repeated at least five times changing the mea- suring positions. 8 Expression of test result Correct the average of the apparent coating thick- nesses which have been measured at least five times the difference between the read value of 7 b) and the read value of 7 c)l

This numerical value cor- responds to the coating thickness at the measuring point specified in JI$ H 8601.
