Definitions For the purpose of this Standard, the following definitions apply. working fluid prepared from mineral oil additives or refined mineral oil including additives (rust preventives, oxidation inhibitor, abrasion resistant agent, pour point depressant, antifoaming agent,

Instruments and Apparatus to Be Used for Measurement The i
7、nstruments and apparatus to be used for measurement shall be as follows. (1) Membrane Filter for Analysis The membrane filter for analysis (hereafter referred to as filter) shall be 47 mm in diameter and 0.8 pm in pore diameter. 9、ri Dish 7.2 (7) and shall be able to store the filters in clean state. The petri dish is used for drying the filters in 7.2 (6) and Pincette filters. The pincette shall be flat in top ends not liable to injure the Measuring Cylinder capacity 100 ml in plugless type specified in JIS R 3505. The measu
10、ring cylinder shall be that of nominal P I Sample Bottle capacity about 250 ml with inner lid. The sample bottle shall be that made of glass or plastic in Remark: instead of inner lid, a clean plastic film may be used. Filtration Equipment (see Fig. 1). The filtration equipment shall consist of the

Reagents and Solvents The reagents and solvents shall be those having been filtered by membrane filter with pore diameter 0.8 pm or under and shall be as follo
17、ws. (1) Distilled Water and Demineralized Water (2) Isopropyl Alcohol The isopropyl alcohol shall be grade 1 of JIS K 8839 or those equivalent or superior to this in quality. (3) Petroleum Ether The petroleum ether shall be grade 1 of JIS K 8593 or that equivalent or superior to this. Remark: Instea
18、d of petroleum ether, the special grade of JIS K 8848 or that equivalent or superior to this may be used. Measuring Apparatus The petri dish, pincette, measuring cylinder, lid, upper funnel with scale, filter supporting base, sample bottle and its lid shall be cleaned prior to every time of use in the following sequence. (1) Rinse with petroleum ether to remove oil content. (2
20、) Wash sufficiently in warm water with using neutral detergent and rinse twice with warm water. Rinse twice with filtered distillated water. Rinse with filtered isopropyl alcohol to remove water content. Rinse with filtered petroleum ether and then put inner lid as a small amount of petroleum ether
21、remains in the bottle and further put outer lid, (3) (4) (5) 6. Samdes The sampling method of samples, fluid sampling amount and sample for measurement shall be as follows. (1) Sample in the sample bottle about 200 ml of working fluid to be measured according to a proper method. (2) Take 100 ml as s
22、ample for measurement. Further, it is allowed to change the amount of sample suitably according to the degree of contamination. 7. Measuring Method 7.1 General The general common items shall be as follows. (1) Clean the filtration equipment, sample bottle, measuring cylinder, Petri dish, pincette, e
23、tc. prior to use according to the procedure of 5. The gravimeter and other apparatus and the like shall be stored in clean state, (2) (3) As the place of measurement, select the place of clean environment as little as possible in vibration. 7.2 Preliminary Measurement of Filters The preliminary meas
24、urement of filters shall be as follows: (1) Take out two filters from filter ves.se1 with using a pincette and mark on the peripheral part of filters by method not to be defaced “E“ on one filter (filter for measurement) and “T“ on other filter (filter for correction). (3) Rin
26、se the upper funnel with solvent. (4) Suck until the filters have been dried. (5) Loose the fastening, remove the upper funnel and stop to suck. (6) Insert two filters in Petri dish so as not to be one upon another with using pincette. Put the Petri dish in the dryer at 8OoC, open halfway the lid of
27、 Petri dish and dry for 30 min. (7) Transfer the Petri dish into desiccator, and allow to stand for 30 min with the lid of Petri dish half open. For the filters “E“ and “T“ taken out from desiccator, measure and record as follows: Place the filter IiEf1 on the gravimeter, measure swiftly and record
28、the mass of lEl W E (initial mass) in unit 0.1 mg. (b) Place the filter “T“ on the gravimeter, measure swiftly and record the mass of “T“ mT (initial mass) in unit 0.1 mg. (10) Return the measured and recorded filters “E“ and “TI to the Petri dish so as not to lie one upon another and store. Remark:
29、 In the case where the contamination level of sample is expected clearly to exceed 10 mg/100 ml, the use of filter “T“ may be abridged. 7.3 Measuring Procedure of Working Fluid Contamination The measuring procedure of working fluid contamination shall be as follows: (1) Mount two filters with filter
30、 “T“ in underway to the filter supporting base with using pincette and assemble the upper and lower funnels with fastenings. (3) (4) Shake the sample bottle sufficiently to suspend so that the particulates may be distributed uniformly as far as possible. Immediately, take the sample for measurement
31、100 ml into the measuring cylinder Further, according to the contamination level, the quantity of sample may be changed suitably. Pour the content of measuring cylinder in the upper funnel. Put the li
33、d on the upper funnel. Suck until about 2 ml remains in the upper funnel. Remove the lid of upper funnel, pour solvent of about 50 ml along the inner wall of upper funnel with using the washing bottle and put on the lid. Suck until the filter has been dried. Remove the lid, fastening and upper funne
34、l. While sucking, flow the solvent in jet style from washing bottle at periphery of filter “E“ to remove oil content sufficiently. Stop the suction. Repeat the procedures of 7.2 (6) to (8). Take out the filter “E“ place on the gravimeter, measure swiftly and record the mass of “E“ M (final mass of t
35、he filter for measurement)in unit 0.1 mg. Take out the filter “Ttt, place on the gravimeter, measure swiftly and record the mass of “T“ MT (final mass of the filter for correction) in unit 0.1 mg, 8. Calculation and Report of Measured Results ( 1 Calculation of Measured Results as follows. The calcu
36、lation of measured results shall hf= (ME-?&) - (MT-mT) where, M : contaminant (mg) ME: final mass of filter for measurement (mg) m : initial mass of filter for measurement (mg MT: final mass of filter for correction (mg) mT: initial mass of filter for correction (mg) (2) Report of Measured Results T

In the case where MT-rnT exceeds 0.5 mg, judge that the sufficient rinsing has not been conducted and in .this case, increase the quantity of solvent for rinsi
39、ng and repeat again the procedures for measurement. 2. In the case where-the increment of mass of filter for correction exists even in repetition of the above operation or in the case where the filter for correction “TI is not used, append the matter.
