、 volatile organic compounds in airborne by gas detector tube Introduction In order to perform the environmental management dealing with vola- tile organic compounds, it is often required the measurement of their concentration in the neighboring air. This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies so tha

、t these measurements are able to be easily performed. 1 Scope This Standard specifies the method for measuring the concentration of trichloroethylene (trichloroethene) and tetrachloroethylene (tetrachloroethene) in the airborne volatile organic compounds by a length-of-strain type long term gas dete

、c- tor tube. Furthermore, this Standard applies in the case where the concentration of the target substance to be measured is that of several 10 pg/m3 to several 100 pg/m3 and the concentration less than or more than that, and the influence of the interfer- ing substance on a gas detector tube is ne

、Measurement procedure a) Selection of measurement point For the location where the leakage of tar- get substance to be measured is anticipated, select the spot at a height of 1.5 m as a measurement point. Furthermore, as necessary, take sample air into a sampling bag(2), etc. once, and introduce it

、into the gas detector tube after per- forming the homogenization of sample air. Note (2) It shall be made of materials such as polyvinyl fluoride, polyester for which adsorption and permeation, and deterioration of sample air are as small as possible, and shall have the volume of 2 times or over the

、 amount of sample air taken. Furthermore, also for the pump for sam- pling, select materials for which adsorption and permeation, and de- terioration of sample air are as small as possible. b) Measurement preparation i) Measure the temperature and humidity at the measurement point, and confirm that

、they are in the service range shown in the specification of gas detector tube. 2) Make the temperature of the gas detector tube to be used become the tem- perature in the measurement location(3). Furthermore, take care so that it is not exposed to direct sunlight at this time. Note (3) When using th

Perform the leakage test of air sampling apparatus according to the speci- fication. Beforehand, connect the same type used pret

、 them to the fitting opening of gas detector tube so that sample air flows in the direction of the arrow printed on the surface of gas detector tube as shown in the example of figure 1. As soon as the air sampling apparatus is operated, confirm the flowmeter, and when it differs from the suction flo

If the flow rate seems to change during this time, keep it con- stant by regulating so that the predetermined flow rate is obtained. Remove the gas detector tube immediately after the completion of suction, and read out the concentration graduation of the top end of colour change layer (4) (5). 4) Notes (4) (5) 5) When the Since there is a case where the changed colour fades with the tim
