、:620.1 JAPANESE INDUSTRIAL STANDARD J I S Method of Physical Test for Plaster of R 9112-1978 Paris Mold for Pottery (Reaffirmed : 1986) 1. Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies physical test for deciding the performance of plaster of Paris mold for pottery. 2. Sample 2.1 Sampling Method

、For plaster of Paris mold, the sample shall be so taken as to express the average quality according to a rational sampling plan, However, in the case of testing non-aged plaster, it shall be that bleached in air for not less than 24 h after baking. 2.2 The sample for plaster of Paris mold shall be r

、educed according to quatering, and stored in an airtight container free of moisture, 3. Methods of Test 3 . 1 Water-carrying Capacity The water-carrying capacity means the most suitable amount of water to be used for plaster. For deciding the water-carrying capacity, the following operation shall be

、 carried out: Put 100 ml water at 15 to 25OC into a dried beaker of approximately 300 ml, next sink the sample into water while scattering it little by little into a beaker. When the excess supernatant water is extinguished completely, measure the mass of projected-in sample, obtain according to the

、 following formula to one place of decimal, and count as one fractions of not more than 5 inclusive in one place of decimal and cut away the rest to decide the water-carrying capacity. 100 g (=mass of water used) mass of sample used ( g ) loo Water-carrying capacity (%) = Remark: Allow the time requ

、ing-in The starting time of flowing-in means the time since starting of projecting the plaster into water of water- carrying capacity until beginning of flowing-in. Namely, by using a suitable cylindrical container of approximately 150 mm in internal diameter, approximately 120 mm in height, pour wa

、ter of water-carrying capacity into this, spread uniformly the specimen plaster 800 g on the water surface, after leaving for 2 min, stir by using a bar of 15 mm fn diameter at a speed of 100 times per min for approximately 2 min or more, and take the time, when even the trace of bar appears slightl

、y it becomes such viscosity that immediately it extinguishes, as the starting time of flowing-in. 3.3 Setting Time The setting time means the time since starting of projecting-in of plaster into water of water carrying capacity until its setting. For its measurement, utilize a Vicker-needle-apparatu

、s setting time measuring apparatus, pour in the paste having reached the starting time of flowing-in of 3.2 into metallic cylinder mold, insert a thermometer (l) into the middle and carry out the following test. (2) The apparent endinding time means the time until the standard needle of measuring apparatus has come to stop at a depth of 1 mm from the surface of specimen. (3) The ending time means the time until the thermometer has come to indic

、e used shall be an indicating graduation thermometer, of which reading is less than 0.5OC (value of one graduation) at 100C or lower (indicating amount). 3.4 Wet Tensile Strength For measuring wet tensile strength, use a tenstile strength tester of Michaelis type, place a metallic mold on a glass pl

、ate, pour in the paste which has attained the starting time of flowing-in of 3.2, make the surface flat, smooth, after 40 min, remove the mold, leave in atmospheric air, and relating to that having elapsed 2 h since projection starting, measure the wet tensile strength. As to the measuring results,

However, for that carried out with the measurement not less than twice according to the following method, obtain the average value to one place of decimal and count as one fractions of not less than 5 and cut away the rest in one place of decimal to indicate. I, Take the sample of 50 g

、 at each time, while striking lightly, give horizontal moving and up-and-down moving, treat the aggregated powder by rubbing lightly with fingertips to the degree to crush, carry out the screening, when the passing amount in 1 min has become not more than 0.1 g, weigh the mass remaining on the sieve

、 and take it as the fineness residual. I Further, it may be carried out by using a machine sieve.
